caught up on the opener and main from last night. opener did no favors for gresham. the guy did not look like any sort of threat to claudio and could see someone who never followed roh questioning how this dude was the top champion

main was very good. agreed that the first was better

AEW wrestlers make the rounds at all the cons. Sammy, Tay, and Darby are doing signings and Q&As at conventions nearly every weekend. I think that's how some of them make extra cash instead of having to take bumps on the indies on their offdays like other people on the roster do.

WWE used to be at SDCC every year too to promote the action figures. Also pro wrestling has clearly become ingrained in the wider "nerd culture". Not really much of a stretch.

First was better because we all knew it would be tied 1 to 1 no matter what, that's any best out of 3 match, so the dramatics don't really begin until its tied 1 and 1.

Gresham probably isn't signed? I can't keep up with all this stuff but they geeked him out like he isn't going to be a part of the program and used it to put over Claudio huge, which is the right thing to do for Claudio.

    Lmao

Even better, apparently there was never a show booked at that venue, that night is scheduled as an Open Mic night, basically making it a scam. Go seek jesus out some more Joey you piece of shit.

Doesn’t help he looked like he was miserable coming out to the ring. One of the worst moments of someone knowing they’re going to lose coming out to the ring looking miserable.

I’m not familiar with Gresham prior to Supercard earlier this year. Everything I’ve seen about his appearance this weekend has seemed super unprofessional. Does he have a reputation as such?

Tony definitely needs a talent relations guy. A lot of these stories seem to be coming from people who aren’t a priority in AEW booking and Tony needs someone who can communicate with all talent. That being said, I didn’t really see a long term plan for Gresham anyway given his highly technical style, height and lack of popularity despite getting pushed big in ROH. He’s good in the ring, but has always lacked charisma and was one of the people pushed to the moon in the last 1-2 years of ROH dying a slow death that never went anywhere.

    Stuff not mentioned/elaborating the tweets:

Fightful Select has learned that former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham asked for his release Saturday ahead of the ROH Death Before Dishonor show that saw him lose the championship. We're told that there was a lack of communication between the company and Gresham leading up to the weekend, and Gresham was said to have felt disrespected by this. Among other things, we learned that the lack of time for the world title match was a tipping point as well.

Fightful has reached out to Khan and Gresham for responses, and we're told from Gresham's side of things that as of this moment, Gresham is "done with wrestling for the foreseeable future after this month." We were also told that Gresham came out without his regular entrance gear because he wanted to be himself and see everything clearly for what would possibly be his last match. We've not heard from Tony Khan or ROH's side of things officially.

  23. The original plan was for Claudio to debut last night and it got pushed up due to the injuries so he was definitely going to have more time with the belt + an actual build up for that match.

  24. time for Gresham to control his own narrative

I have no real exposure to gresham but I feel for him. He’s gotten no exposure with the AEW crowd. How the ROH belt gets little to no screen time is crazy to me. The FTW belt has been held in higher regard within AEW
