Limgrave is actually not an insignificant portion of the map if you include the weeping peninsula. I felt more inclined to go off the beaten path and explore limgrave than most other areas but at a certain point around the capital I’d say there’s a certain linearity to a lot of the zones

You can get away with a lot less vigor for Mohg, would suggest looking into 2 items though for him: Mohg’s Shackle and Purifying Crystal Tear.

Killed the Godskin Apostle at the top of the midsommer hill in Plateau. So decided to go back to Divine Tower in Caelid to find the other one. Why is this one in the tower so much harder!????!!!!

Player's Log: Back to the grind. I'm starting by cleaning up anything left in Limgrave that I can do.

First thing the walkthrough told me about is the Bell-Bearing Hunter. That did not go well. I also read elsewhere I should be level 40 before I try it, and I'm not level 40, so I don't know why this walkthrough I'm using even mentioned it right now.

Anyway, I went after the Deathbird instead. This went much better, as I killed it by summoning my knights and sticking close to its knees.

So here's where I am. The Marvel news kept me from making much progress in the game, but I did end up doing some things.

    * I activated the Site of Grace in the Siofra River.
    * I obtained the Royal House Scroll and killed everyone in the outpost there.
    * I helped Blaidd kill Darriwil in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.
    * I met Irina in the Weeping Peninsula and agreed to her quest.
    * I activated two more Sites of Grace.

En route to the Sites, I stumbled across the Night's Cavalry. It's not accurate to say he kicked my ass, but I didn't defeat him, and I can tell that when I get serious about it, it's going to be a tough battle. I might gloss over that fight for now and come back to it.

Tomorrow I'll go through Weeping Peninsula en masse.

The Night's Cavalry are still quite tough for me at level 120! There is a talisman that increases the damage of attacks while you are on your horse that is in Limgrave (the Stormhill area) that may help you kill it quicker

Player's Log: Okay, so I didn't make as much progress as I wanted today, but I still did quite a bit.

I can't remember everything I went and did, but that site I'm using has an interactive map, so I've got it set up to display all the things I want to find, and I'm checking them off as I go.

I started by cleaning up more of Limgrave, making sure I have everything I can possibly obtain that's worth my while. I actually don't have a lot to do in Limgrave proper left. The only things I know of that I haven't done yet are killing the Bell-Bearing Hunter, killing the Crucible Knight, and the only dungeon is the Fringefolk Hero's Grave, which I did attempt, and eventually gave up on, because it sucks.

Then when I was sure I had nothing else in Limgrave besides the above, I turned my attention to the Weeping Peninsula. I cleared out Oridy's Rise, the Impaler's Catacombs, the Lookout Tower, and the Demi-Human Forest Ruins. I saved in the Tombsward Catacombs, which is where I'll pick up next time.

I'm one away from 40 Vigor. It's my understanding that anything after that is diminishing returns, so should I keep doing Vigor or focus on another stat?

I leveled Strength a couple times, but I dunno if that's the right choice.

I am very much a hack and slasher. What should I do?

Definitely leave Vigor at 40 for a while, mine is only 50 and I am level 129. You should level either Strength or Dexterity depending on the types of weapons you wish to use - I have Dex at 50 as I love using all the katanas etc., but if you are using a weapon that scales primarily with strength then definitely level that a few times

60 is when the 2nd soft cap on vigor hits. I say put any point in there you can spare.

weapons scale more from upgrading them than the corresponding stats.

I guess in early game every stat point helps - a point or two in Mind to increase FP can get you an extra L2 attack before you have to use a flask, points in Endurance gives you more stamina so you worry less about backing off in fights to let it go back up etc.
But yes, getting smithing stones and upgrading weapons is definitely a good shout; I think most of my success is down to the fact the first thing I always do in a new area is go to the mines & get smithing stones to upgrade as much as possible before doing anything else.

Yeah, I could definitely stand to level my weapon a little more. It's +3 still, I should take it to the Hold. I kind of backed off Hold stuff because I can't level Spirits yet, but I guess I should go back and see my options.

Scaling is massively important in any soulsborne game. Upgrade as much as you can as early as you can and make sure your weapon scales to the main stat of your class.

OK I am kinda pissed off with Mountaintops of the Giants. When I first read about it I couldn't wait to get there & see what it was like, and initially I was not disappointed - all those giant skulls embedded in the cliff faces are some of the coolest things in the entire game, and I have just now got to the area with all the frozen giant corpses too which is badass. However, they filled this area with the most annoying fucking enemies in the game - why the fuck are the Caelid dog things & crows up here? Those two, the hand spider things and those annoying marionette soldiers are literally my 4 least favourite enemy types, so of course the whole place is littered with them. The trolls are great, Zamor soldiers are great if a little tough, the giant hands I can understand being here but fuck the rest.
