The pool scene is one of Gandolfini's finest moments. Once Tony realizes what is happening his fatherly instinct kicks in. The way he runs and jumps in with no regard for himself, the way he yells "whats wrong with you?" as a man who so desperately wants to save his son but doesn't have the emotional tools to do so.

That scene absolutely destroys my heart. When he calls AJ, “my baby” :verysad:

Hope you didn’t see anything but yes, probably a good idea. Might be smart to only come in here to post reactions without reading anything

Just don't read the other posts. I've posted multiple times in the Better Call Saul thread while the show is actively in its last season and I just don't read the other posts.

Well we went ahead and finished the first season last night. What a great first season! My wife thought it was a little anticlimactic since there wasn't really a full-scale war, but a bunch of stuff happened. Mikey Palmice was gunned down, Junior was indicted, Tony's mother had a stroke, they found out who the rat was, and Tony now knows it was his mother/Junior behind the hit.

    Some thoughts:

    - "Cunnilingus and psychiatry brought us to this!" - a funny line but it's true, the whole conflict is based on these two aspects of Junior and Tony's characters.
    - I enjoyed Father Phil getting called out by Carmella for the pasta hog that he is. Dude just lets himself into their house and is in their fridge when she comes home lol
    - "The Captain seeing a psychiatrist. How's that sit with your ass?" "I usually sit with my ass." lol I enjoyed this little exchange between Paulie and Silvio.
    - That being said, I wonder if Paulie is gonna be a problem further down the road since he can't get past the fact that Tony's therapist is a woman.

Tony toasting to his family and the little moments was a perfect way to end the season. Can't wait to see what they do next season with Junior in the can. I wonder if Pussy will ever come back?

It wouldn't be much of a war since the vast majority of the family regarded Tony as the real boss. Junior had mostly elderly soldiers left in his crew.

This show could be considered a slow-burn and true to real life. You won’t be getting Breaking Bad/GoT-esque sensationalized violence like most shows that imitate this one, but there are definitely explosive moments throughout each season—and even throughout each episode. The brilliance is in the writing, in the little moments, and how they relate to the big picture (which you don’t see until the very end).

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I'm still certain that David Chase wrote the line "cunnilingus and psychiatry brought us to this" first and then figured out the rest of the show around it

It's a bit of a plot hole, though, because when they are about to kill Big Pussy he fondly reminisces about performing oral sex on his possibly fake Puerto Rican girlfriend and they all laugh together.

But that actually makes sense to me that they’re all just hypocrites and trying to one-up each other except when they’re patting themselves on the back

Started season 2 tonight. Not much to say, but at the moment Tony appears lost. Dr. Melfi won't take him back and he's got issues.

I’m guessing tony gets whacked but hoping that the rest of the family ended up ok.

I know it’s not really the etiquette to spoiler tag after a show is over for a while, but there are people straight-up watching this for the first time and regularly visiting this thread. I think it’s only fair for their sake to be conscientious of that.

I just try not to read anything other than posting my thoughts. Been thinking of maybe starting my own thread but that's kinda self-serving.

Anyways, my favorite exchange from tonight's episode (S2E3: Do Not Resuscitate)

Tony: "You ever watch the history channel?"
    Reverend: "Television?"
Tony:" The history channel. I think you'd like it. They got that bible shit."
Reverend: "The only shit in the bible came out of Pharaoh's ass when Moses parted the Red Sea. Never underestimate a man fighting for his freedom."

Anyways Tony's mom (and now his sister) continue to be the worst. I think Meadow is low-key my favorite character. I don't think AJ had a line this season until this episode and when he finally spoke, my wife was like "is that the same kid?" Dude's voice changed and he got a much needed haircut.

Janice is possibly the best character on the show. She is just so manipulative and selfish.

Unrelated, but I also watched Friday Night Lights for the first time, also last year. Also very good. Don’t know which one I like better, though Sopranos is definitely more consistent.
