What percentage of the gross ticket sales usually goes to the artist/performing band?

Plus, even if it was really a production issue, I'm willing to bet MCR & Paramore have WAY lower standards for accomodations than Travis Scott & J Cole do. Give 'em a stage, a PA, & 20 minutes to set up and they'll do just fine. It's not like Travis who always has pyrotechnics and giant screens at his shows (no shade, I do like me some pyrotechnics & screens).

It depends on the contract. There’s usually a guarantee and then % of ticket sales on top with an increased percentage if it’s a sold out show. Using Phoebes number for an example, it was $250k in gross sale. Hypothetically, she might have gotten a $100k guarantee and then like 60% of ticket sales. 100k plus 60% of the difference (Gross - guarantee). The hospitality budget (green room stuff, food, etc) usually gets deducted from the percentage of ticket sales and then the venue keeps the rest after paying whatever fees to Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, whatever and the promoter. Venue makes most of their money from the bar and will also take a percentage of merch sales.

So in this make believe scenario, Phoebe is at about 190k (100k guarantee + 90k percentage). Her manager will automatically take about 10% off the top, booking agent 5%, and then all the expenses - bus, crew, band, lodging, equipment rentals, per diem, and of course taxes. I think a conservative estimate is that the artist will net anywhere from 30-50% of gross depending on expenses and how well the shows go. Artists at this level are very safe from flops. If you look at the numbers for the mid-level and lower bands, the margins are much much thinner.

And then Phoebe definitely makes a killing on merch each night. Easily gross 40-50k a show.

I hope that helps. I know it’s long but I’m just high on the devils lettuce.

this is also why people like phoebe do underplays. She could have easily done amphitheater on this tour but didn’t because she was guaranteed a sell out, which gives her a bonus. Same for Olivia rodrigo. Probably making comparable money, guaranteed sell out, and then bookers see “oh she sells out these rooms, let’s book her in bigger spots”

This is really insightful. I'd be curious to know (if there is any way to do this) what your average gross is for a band that plays the 1-2k House Of Blues level tours across the country. Always curious what they end up netting from those shows.

Avg ticket sales is about 1200 per show, gross is about 30k/show based on the data I have.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

I sold my ticket to Punk in Drublic in Detroit because they moved it inside and was thinking of buying a ticket to that Third Eye Blind tour now, thinking, "I wonder how many tickets are available?" and like 2/3s of the seats and a lot of the lawn was still up for grabs lmao
