It’s not about the dollars exiting the pocket of some billionaire do not give a shit about that it’s about 3 years down the road when he’s accounting for $60 mil of their cap and still not playing a lick of defense and they’ve got no money left to build a real contender after extending Ant. That’s a tough spot to be in when you have a mega expensive player before your best player hits his prime

  3. I don’t get why anyone cares? Like so what? Spend more of their dumb money to be fine?

Same reason anyone cares about anything to do with sports lol, just saying in the context of team building that’s gonna hurt in the future

I mean, the cap exists, so that’s pretty important too? I’m all for players getting the bag but pretending like the salary cap doesn’t exist is how bad teams stay bad

i know jason has me blocked but obviously no one cares about billionaires setting their money on fire. the point is they’re going to do that anyways. no teams really should/do enter the season with cap space much at all and most enter the season over the luxury tax. so if they’re going to do it anyways, spend money on good players and good deals as opposed to way overpaying players that are going to hamper you in two years.

the wolves usually never hold the cards in long term contract extensions either, it’s just the downside of a small market team and always having to pay extra for a player who’s generally not worth it. The KAT contract fo sho is a relative overpay, but his value is always up and down so I wouldn’t even know what you would get in a trade if they dealt him over an extension.

KAT is definitely in the John Wall/Westbrook category where everyone knows the deal is gonna probably hurt the teams ability to be competitive. Not the Jokic or Giannis category of someone who is worth every penny and maybe then some

of course I’m happy for the players for getting whatever they can get, it can harm the team and therefore the fans down the road at the same time

I don’t really like the Payton deal but I’m also fine with it. They weren’t going to get Bruce brown so no reason to wait. They desperately needed a backup that could play defense and wasn’t atrocious outside and it’s apparently really hard to find that. Trailblazers teams have been the best when they have had a mo williams or a seth curry backing up dame so I’m glad joe cronin realized that. Neil was having nobodies behind dame and breaking his body down by making him play every minute.

i get everyone gets the max but paying zion every single penny when he has sat out 2/3 of his time in the league is wild
