    yeah good okay Prestigious

ok bc my paycheck this past pay period was magically smaller and it's because of the 401k contribution, which yeah, that shit won't exist inside the next 10 years

  17. If you're in a position to get a decent match from your employer and not severely miss the amount you contribute, I feel like choosing to skip a 401(k) has a "bunker-armory & MREs for a small village" level of pessimism behind it haha

But that's a shockingly small portion of the workforce so...

Gotta love how he's still being referred to as "R&B artist" or "singer and songwriter" in the articles about this instead of "convicted sex creep" or "predatory monster".

401k definitely won’t be worth anything in 10-15 years but I used mine from my last job as a down payment on my house.

For a non cynical answer, yes. Without being snarky, I don't know how anyone can say it doesn't matter. If the world is at a point where your 401k is zero or doesn't exist, I'm probably not worrying about it, as it'd mean something really, really bad happened, like the total & utter collapse of society bad. So if you want to bet that you won't retire because there won't be a world to retire in, don't invest. If there's any part of you that has hope that there will be a reasonable world that you will want to actually enjoy instead of working till your body can't physically anymore, then invest.

It's also available for loans at a low interest rate where you pay yourself back including that interest (yes there are risks that I'm aware of), so it's a safety net as well. I've used it before to bail out higher interest debt and it just comes out your paycheck and back into the plan and at times of low growth, or negative growth, who cares? This year has been absolutely brutal and it's way down, so it seems at times like I'm pissing money away, but after taxes it's really not much more money in your paycheck anyway (especially if you're only contributing to gain the match like 5 or 6%). If you max out ($20k I think), you'd probably notice the difference.

I have a 401k because my company matches but I have absolutely no faith that it will carry me into retirement. I just want the extra money from my employer lol

Counterintuitively, the uncertainty surrounding the market/USD/society makes it way more likely that social security will be fully scrapped before we retire, making 401(k)/IRA strategies for millennials and even GenZ way more important.
