I’m putting it in my head canon that they’re going to be inducted into the Rock n Roll HOF the same year as FOB

I remember driving around with my mom when I had my temps listening to SSTB and she just had the most miserable look on her face every time lmao will never forget that

Crazy to think I was listening to this band at 15/16 getting my license and was listening then today as a mid-30’s office drone who was pissed when someone came into my office during “Ladders” and I told them to wait until the song was done until asking their question.

Edit: they got to enjoy the song as well since I was playing it very loudly through my speakers, which made their opening my office door to ask stupid work questions that much more upsetting

The All-American Rejects reminds me of RuneScape lmao. I would play for hours and only listen to the singles, Move Along, Swing Swing, Dirty Little Secret, not even the albums lol. Glad I moved onto better soundtracks when Ingraduated to Modern Warfare and StarCraft

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I used to listen to The Used s/t just on repeat playing Runescape. still can't hear Box Full of Sharp Objects without getting a mental image of Runescape fishing

i got into this band after seeing the “a favor house atlantic” video on mtv 2 and thinking the album title was so pretentious it couldn’t not be good

tbh i had a severe emo allergy in high school and coheed overcame it handily. i downloaded “time consumer” after getting into iksse and thought “oh this is the greatest band of all time”

    love all these stories

I remember hearing A Favor House Atlantic and being like "oh hell no, this guy's voice is way too high and annoying."

Then I heard Welcome Home and was like "oh shit this riff is so metal, wtf I love this band now."

I got into them when a friend recommended Devil In Jersey City as a good pop punk song at the time. I put the album on and time consumer took it in a much different direction than I expected and ended up loving the whole thing.

Yeah my entry point was A Favor music video on Fuse or MTV. At the time my only other point of reference for that type of music was The Darkness so dug the song a lot due to how it reminded me of them. Then they would play Blood Red Summer that whole summer of ‘04 on my local alt station and it became ingrained in me but for some reason I still never sought them out. Finally I got GA1 in the beginning of sophomore year and the rest is history. They’re my second favorite band to this day.

We reach for the longest shadow

I had a similar experience with both songs. With AFHA I heard it and thought it was cool but the dude's voice was way too high. I still bought the CD, and was listening to IKS, I was like, "whoa this is such a cool intro" then Claudio started singing, and I thought, "Oh yeah I forgot for a second this guy was the singer".

Then with Welcome Home, I listened to the premier on their website, heard the intro before Claudio started singing, stopped what I was doing to immediately download it (Torrent of a single? Limewire? Who knows) then listened through the intro again and thought it was the coolest thing I had ever heard, then Claudio started singing and it was jarring, and again I remember thinking, "oh right, this is still Coheed". :crylaugh:

I saw the video for The Suffering on MTV 2 and my buddy burned me a copy of Good Apollo I a few years later. Was a casual fan of that album until it all clicked for me listening to it on a drive to Maine in 9th grade. Became obsessed shortly thereafter when I bought In Keeping Secrets. First show was the Black Rainbow tour with Torche and Circa Survive.

Also shoutout to Live at the Starland Ballroom, that took the band for me from "Hey these guys are pretty cool" to "They might be my favorite band" when it was only IKS and SSTB out at that time.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

If we're shouting out live releases then a shout out to the Live at La Zona Rosa EP that came with certain copies of In Keeping Secrets. Gave me my favorite version of Evil Everything with their "self indulgent prog wank" session in the middle.

Heard IKS and SSTB as a freshman in college. Ripped them to death that year. For whatever reason lost track of the band after that until earlier this year. You know just a 17 year hiatus lol. Listened to them A TON for most of this year. Love em

Gonna quote myself here. I kind of miss when they were this chaotic live. They had tamed down a good bit by the first time I saw them in 2012.

This show was elite and I’m so glad they filmed a dvd of it. The band has every song from it uploaded to their YouTube page so I encourage everyone to watch them if they haven’t already

all right i just did a discography run, not actually because of vaxis ii but because the debut of the wrestler claudio on aew got the end of “everything evil” stuck in my head for like three days

almost everything about this band rules but i would like to call out the things about them that don’t rule at all:

    - even though having an epic science fiction story connecting the records is part of the draw, the amory wars, as a narrative, is not good, at all

    - plus so many of its plot points hinge on the rape, torture, and general suffering of women, and it’s a bummer. it’s somewhat digestible if it’s just part of the already established shittiness of a character like al the killer or the guy who’s narrating the date rape song on afterman, but it REALLY sucks when it’s being expressed by the literal avatar of claudio on good apollo 1. it’s gross and unnecessary and y’know, poor erica court, she didn’t deserve that. really thankful the vaxis records haven’t indulged in this trope afaict

    - their music videos, with very few exceptions, are hideous

ranking! (i’m so sorry for ranking):

    1. sstb (the production of this record is kind of raw in a bad way but it is the fifth sunny day real estate album if sung by geddy lee and is therefore the most perfect thing ever made)

    2. good apollo 1 (if i can manage to ignore the misogyny, otherwise demote to the position below iksse:3. hard for me to deny even then that “ten speed” is the best coheed song)

    3. nwft (like many ppl here i wasn’t totally down with this record on release but now i love how it subverts anyone’s idea of a “satisfying” ending, down to how fuckin weird “on the brink” is)

    4. iksse:3 (it’s only this low because i’ve been listening to this album since i was 15 and it’s hard to hear anything new in it. we all know it fucks from top to bottom)

    5. the afterman (i don’t understand ppl who rank one chapter of afterman over the other, they’re about equally good in my estimation, besides which they are totally a singular piece. renewed my love for the band, and was for a short spell my favorite coheed album)

    6. vaxis ii

    7. vaxis i

    8. year of the black rainbow (i hate putting this record so low bc it’s underrated but i think Very Serious And Somewhat Mathy Coheed wears on a listener over 50ish minutes)

    9. color before the sun (took a nap to this record today. it’s fine but i wish the one personal coheed record wasn’t also home to claudio’s most boring melodies. i utterly adore “island” though)

It reminds me of Ten Speed (their best song ever, not even debatable) in how the melodic lines are perfectly interwoven together.
