i dont know about shitting on one team for something thats basically endemic in sports culture. like you cant tell me there isnt at least a handful of dickheads on every team

 

that said i hope the red sox get to beat the rays again in the playoffs. was the highlight of my 2021

 

The biggest misstep was making wearing the patch optional. It doesn’t seem like any of the games in which a specific uniform is worn are “opt in” situations, so they really should have just made it mandatory.

However, the Rays also operate in Desantis-ville and we’ve seen what that monster does to your business or organization if you try to take a hard stance against things he is pushing. The other night the Rays (along with the Yankees) dedicated their social media feed to gun violence awareness rather than tweet about anything baseball related.

A week later, he vetoed funding for the Rays planned sports complex for their future spring training site.

Whether the Rays should fund it themselves is a whole separate thing, but there is an obvious risk in making a Pride patch mandatory in Florida’s political climate.

I think the FO miscalculated, because a player going behind the teams back to the media and complaining would definitely be the risk I’d rather take, but they decided to take the risk of letting these players out themselves to the national media and talk themselves into their own hole. But now, rather than having some sense and going “oh wow, those players that opted out seem like bigots” has turned into “wow the Rays seem like bigots”.

Have whatever opinion you want, but the fact is (to my knowledge, anyway) that only one other team in the MLB has worn Pride patches and/or hats on Pride night to date and that is the Giants.

The Rays have been hosting Pride nights for 16 years and decided to be the second team in the sport to manifest that gesture on the uniforms themselves.

 

Just remember we can all hate the entire Brewers organization since Josh Hader said some shit on Twitter when he was a teenager. Fuck the brewers.

 

It's just time to start over from scratch with umpires. The 98%, 99% guys in MLB, keep em. Everybody else, take a walk
