Saying Cody is allowed to do whatever he wants aint playing armchair anything! He's an adult and a smart one at that!

Pro wrestling isn't an athletic competition. Playing through injury in sports is heralded moreso because there's a sense of necessity in it and selflessness in helping (in most cases) your team try to accomplish something. Nothing Cody did last night was necessary.

Kurt Angle did shoot wrestling and real wrestling with a broken freakin neck!

The Mania one was an AWFUL decision and highly publicized, there was no terrible outcome after that as far as other workers and their health.

i've read several of you give your suggestions for a women's match to attract female viewers to wrestling, and thought i'd drop a more current-ish suggestion: bianca vs sasha at mania 37. it has great crowd reactions, spots that looked like botches but come across as a bit of realism, and bianca finally using her hair as a weapon. one of the better women's matches wwe has had since maybe the sasha/bayley 2 piece (takeovers brooklyn & respect).

I mean, whether or not he goes out and gives that promo, there was a shelf-life to the dirtsheet traffic stories about him were/are going to generate. Presuming it at least became a work between DON and Dynamite, they had to do something to address it. Him simply not appearing may have boosted dirtsheet readership to try and learn more, but it wasn't a reasonable direction for AEW who wants TV content and ratings - and another opportunity to showcase MJF as a character.

if you're a public figure, being an adult doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want. You're setting an example, both for others in your industry and for people watching you at home.

The actual extent of Cody's injury is in many ways irrelevant, even if doctors accurately determined "wrestling isn't going to do any more damage or hurt the recovery process, it'll just hurt while you wrestle on it"... I still think you're sending the wrong message if your saying its good to work through pain like that. Like maybe it could work if you present it has Cody not having a choice. Cause then it becomes an actual relatable story -- WWE is evil for making him work, Cody is brave for powering through it. I do think there is value in bravery of working through pain when you aren't left with a choice. But when you do have a choice its just reckless.

That there's a laundry list of past work done with more serious injuries isn't necessarily justification for wrestlers still working with serious injuries today. Especially when you consider the well-publicized pressure WWE and other companies have applied to their independent contractors to work through their injuries (as CM Punk will attest).

I think the distinction here is that you can both acknowledge that it was Cody's choice to make, while also noting how the discourse surrounding that choice should ideally balance the positives and negatives of it. The sad reality is there was a time not so long ago in the industry that wrestlers had no choice but to work through serious injuries like that, and that's a damn shame and shouldn't be encouraged/celebrated.

I ban like 20 accounts a day that range from escort services to concrete pourers. It's a tough job.

I'm not sure what privilege being a mod here gives me, but go off fam.

The privilege you get is that for us peons we have to actually research to find concrete pourers while you sit in a literal castle of concrete (hmmmmmm gee i wonder where all that concrete came from)

The thing it makes me think of the most is the NFL and concussions. How long guys were celebrated working through that stuff and how much effort it took to make people realize "this isnt neccessary, you're just shortening your life". Or how many of those dudes played through Broken X or Torn Y and cant limp around in their 40s

Its why I brought Kenny in; because if Kenny's opponents dont know he has vertigo, they dont know that his very stiff, very precise set of moves might f' them up at any moment that things go spinny for him. How many times do two perfectly healthy guys still result in major injuries?

In Cody's case, they clearly built the entire match around protecting him...but it still strikes me as something that didnt need to happen. Its Vince's or a producers job to say "hey, this is the wrong kind of work"

Cody is an absolute idiot for working hurt. So are all wrestlers or athletes. Hustle culture is so awful. I can’t fathom working like that for a maniacal billionaire who’d dump my limp body in a river if it made him more money.
