It’s great that they’re donating the proceeds but if that’s the case they really should just not play in Israel

  6. Worst part of that is when they say “we don’t claim to know where the moral high ground lies” because you have to be pretty fucking obtuse to not know

  9. I had so much respect for them. it's gone now. fuck this wishy-washy 'we're playing in an apartheid state but it's totally cool because we're donating to victims of said apartheid state's atrocities' nonsense. fuck it to hell.

  10. Yeah they are such phonies - insincere assholes

  11. they played in 2017 but that's not the point. loads of bands do. they go where they're wanted but Big Thief could have just gone again without bringing attention to it and any of this 'uhhhh we don't claim to know where the moral high ground lies because we were collectively born yesterday' garbage. fuck them.

You are a sad, strange little man. Prestigious

Am I dense or is the point to get to know one of the members family better? Why not just have a zoom session with some chit chat instead?

  13. the second half of that post is junk but the thing they kinda dance around about the usa also being a horrid apartheid state sorta resonates with me. i don’t really know what to do with that though. just wish the rot of this society didn’t infiltrate basically everything at all times i guess

Extremely disappointing. I hope they reconsider (again). Always time to learn, they have a month.

i get the idea of wanting to play your hometown, especially when it’s international, but being completely tone deaf to the optics of it is just so idiotic

I don’t really too much about Israel’s politics or what’s going on there now. Can you guys explain why it’s so bad that Big Thief is playing there? I’m asking because I’m clueless and want to learn

Yeah whenever Palestinian/Israel stuff gets brought up I just feel so dumb. I don’t know the history. Can someone explain or link to a good article?

That show was cancelled and this is basically a make up show, not surprised they used the same message.

I’ve seen some people across the internet mention that it’s Max’s ancestral home so I just want to point out that he still lives there. Max lives in Tel Aviv and is only in the US when Big Thief is actively doing something, otherwise he’s in Israel. I’m sure he has a super complex relationship with his country and the boycott of his country.

He plays jazz gigs with his dad and his friends all the time so I understand the desire for his main band to play there too. The messaging feels really off though. If anything I think playing a private show would be much better

Yea when family is involved I understand wanting / needing to visit, but playing a public show is unnecessary.
