I do feel for the band here especially like Jon and will and Andrew and Matt who have always seemed like genuine stand up dudes (unlike tilian who has always come off like a fucking prick) but they’ve gotta step up here and do the right thing and soon or their band is going to be tarnished forever. DGD is one of my most listened to bands of all time but I’m just a few short days away from being unable to listen to them at all anymore

I’m really hoping the reason they haven’t said anything yes is they’re formulating a plan to replace him or unfortunately end the band. Sucks to say but it might be for the best.

It's weird that this is the cancelation that should hurt me the most after all I've emotionally invested into this band, but I've just felt absolutely numb and disconnected from this drama these past couple days.

I can't even muster up the energy to be mad or sad, I just saw the allegations and just said "yup, that sounds about right" and went on with my day. I've lost so much music and community I've loved to shitty band dudes, from Issues to All Time Low to ADTR, this feels like just another drop in the bucket.

Fuck this scene and the culture that allows dudes to do this for years on end without reprecussions. Here's to hoping the next generation of scene kids learn from this pain and know this isn't okay.

Yep also have similar feelings. After so many bands/artists I admired turning out to be horrid over the years I’m unfortunately numb to it as well.

Not even Rise Records has posted on their Twitter since yesterday, and they promote their label and artists all throughout the day everyday. It feels like everything has totally shutdown since the initial allegations and Tilian's response to them.

DGD is so established now that I can’t imagine finding another artist to work with on fronting the band would be as difficult as it was around the time of Jonny/Kurt.

IIRC Kurt happened to be friends with the band’s mgmt and I think was already working on the same label with a different project, so while that switch was relatively quick, the band spent a lot of time after lackluster sales from Deathstar/Happiness and Kurt’s departure trying to find somebody that could cover Jonny and Kurt’s songs. Also needed to be somebody that cared to even make their style of music.

Nowadays, they’re pioneers of their own style with their best releases, recognition, and sales all having happened with Tilian. A much larger network within the music community, etc etc. Somebody surely would be about it.

I honestly can't imagine the band going on at this point. Tilian is such an iconic performer and unique singer, I can't imagine anyone filling his shoes.

Given the fact that two of this band's lead singers have turned out to be serial abusers, I think the guys need some time to step back and take stock of how this band fostered an environment where members were able to take advantage of fans without anyone acknowledging the red flags. Like, I really want the guys to succeed, but this band in particular has some toxicity in the air that needs to be accounted for going forward.

Well, at least one person actually pointed out that he did in fact admit to everything that person posted about him. But yeah, the majority of the reactions are gross

“I will be entering an intensive therapy program to address this issue head on to become the healthiest, most responsible version of me, doing the work necessary to ensure this never happens again.”

yeah they aren’t kicking him out. It’s weird this is all coming through on Reddit posts.

I’m not at all surprised he’s posting this on the subreddit, it’s just a huge echo chamber for him. Way more followers on his Twitter and Instagram but nope, nothing there.

Yeah, if the band as a whole doesn’t release a statement and it’s just these Reddit posts from him, that’s ridiculous and such an obvious attempt to sweep it under the rug. Still hoping they’ll address it collectively but we’ll see…

The stories are terrible and the whole situation is disgusting.

In general, when does an employer (DGD) need to take action in these situations if no legal action is being taken against the abuser? You see it all the time with celebrities, in the music industry, in sports. For example, Deshaun Watson in the NFL gets the largest guaranteed contract of all time after 23 civil lawsuits for sexual abuse are brought against him. It seems like as long as the $$$ keeps coming in, employers won’t take action without a judge making a decision.

I mean, no organization or group has an obligation to do something unless it helps them make money. Unless Tilian becomes too much of a PR liability for the band to continue it's marketability, they probably won't do anything. That's why it's critical that we make a huge fucking deal about this in the initial 72 hours after the allegations come out, because if it doesn't gain momentum, then... nothing will happen.

EDIT: Re-Reading this, I sound super cynical and condescending. Sorry, I'm just not feeling positive today.

    He needs to go ASAP.

As much as I’d love to see this band go on without him this is the second time they’ve given a platform to someone abusive, maybe it’s time to call it a day

I mean no offense but as far as I remember when Jonny was in dgd the only stuff going around about him was him stealing from fans to support his drug addiction right? there wasn’t outright abuse allegations until later I don’t think? not that the stealing stuff is great but I stole from more than a few people during my time in active addiction so I’m not gonna act like I’m any better than that. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t recall any of the real serious Jonny stuff coming out til later when Taylor Nicole dean came out about their relationship which was when he was in slaves

I don't think anyone outright called him abusive until later, but his social media presence indicated an ambivalence towards abuse? Like I think I remembered him tweeting about how girls are so hot he just wanted to "rape at first sight" and saying some people "deserved" to be raped, but I don't know if that was before or after he was kicked out.

  25. the band needs to do something and if kicking out an admitted rapist is too much for them then fuck the lot of them
