I really did not care about this trial at all and do not know much about it but this was an interesting read.

seeing countless TikTok videos of weird reaching conspiracies making Heard seem like a stupid liar and Depp the cool innocent guy just turned me off from ever wanting to actually follow the trial

 

Until last week I was under the impression that Johnny Depp was MeToo-ing Amber Heard, and the trial was about that, not defamation. Whoever was doing PR for Depp deserves a pay raise, because the obfuscation of this trial's purpose was incredible.

It's weird because the vast majority of Depp's supporters I know irl are [queer] women? I don't think I know any Heard supporters outside of terminally-online lefty spaces.

Now actually reading up on everything, the verdict is a massive slap in the face to free speech, and making the discourse around this trial about who's "side" you're on was a massive fucking mistake.

The only person on my Facebook that has been cackling with glee over the trial is the same person who claims that hate speech can’t be defined and people should be able to say anything they want. But talking about being abused without naming anyone? She will post every meme about Amber that she can fine. The same person claims if they go for the 2a she will March, gun in hand, to stop it.

I didn’t follow anything on this trial but based off the people I see “celebrating” Depp on social media tells me exactly what I need to know.

 

Literally the only thing I know about that trial is her dog stepped on a bee, and she maybe took a shit in the bed, and Depp is a drug addled guy who might have hit her.
