WATCH “VIVA LAS VENGEANCE” HERE / LISTEN HERE. .

VIVA LAS VENGEANCE shows a change in process for frontman/songwriter Brendon Urie, having cut everything live to tape in Los Angeles alongside his friends and production partners, Jake Sinclair and Mike Viola. “Viva Las Vengeance is a look back at who I was 17 years ago and who I am now with the fondness I didn't have before. I didn’t realize I was making an album and there was something about the tape machine that kept me honest.” - Brendon Urie

The hit song was nominated for Top Rock Song at the Billboard Music Awards as well as Favorite Pop Rock Song at the AMAs. The album also featured platinum smashes “Hey Look Ma, I Made It,” and “Say Amen (Saturday Night)”. The band’s 2019 sold-out Pray for the Wicked arena world tour sold over 1 million tickets and received critical praise including,“[Urie’s] got the charisma, musical talent and stamina to be one of music’s longest-lasting leading men,” (Variety), “Brendon Urie embodies on-stage theatrics like few other frontmen,” (SF Weekly), and “From dancing fire to a flying piano, Panic! At The Disco puts on a wild show” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

Really surprised at how underwhelming that song was. I didn't think it was bad but there was literally nothing exciting or enjoyable about it either which surprised me for a band (person) thats generally really catchy and full of hooks

I think y'all are being a little too harsh on it. It's fun, if not quite as big as his last few lead off singles.

I like the style of the song more than the song itself. I appreciate what he’s trying to do but don’t love the outcome. Still looking forward to the album.

To be honest I've never been a huge fan of their previous stuff. Really liked the first album but after that I've always just casually listened to them. A handful of tracks from each album (generally the first single or two). As a casual listened I don't find this appealing since I'm looking for something bigger like High Hopes, just felt very bland, blah, and boring

  10. Strangely, I quite like the verses, the bridge, and the outro -- I think those pieces are all rock-solid, but it's the chorus where the song falls off. Both lyrically and melodically, it doesn't hit in a way that brings the song to another level, nor does it come close to the level of hookiness as on songs like "High Hopes" or "Hey Look Ma, I Made It."

The chorus also fails to stand out on a mixing level. You can tell that they wanted the chorus to hit big with the addition of piano stabs and cymbal hits, but those elements are buried in the mix, to the point where the dynamic shift from the verse into the chorus is null -- and that lack of a good dynamic shift makes the whole track feel a bit flat. That's ironic, considering how immaculately recorded the song is, otherwise. Those bgv's sound absolutely amazing, but they make the first verse so big and immersive that the song really doesn't have anywhere to go afterwards but down.

This is actually one of the most well constructed criticisms I've ever read on the site. I actually went back and listened to it again and completely agreed with everything you said. I don't know what a 'bgv' is though!

    Exactly this.

It’s been since Vices and Virtues since I’ve loved a whole album of his. Don’t see that changing anytime soon.

This single did get me to throw Vices and Virtues on though for the first time in a few years. So good.

I listened to this song a few times and was interesting to see what people thought. Even more interesting because I absolutely love the song and everything he's trying to do with it. Funny to come on here and see pretty much the exact opposite of my opinion. But it's all good! I'm happy to agree to disagree here. :)

and JRG already covered me there, but yes, bgv is short for “background vocals”

Yeah, I agree with the general consensus here. Not bad, but not something I'm going to be coming back to much.

I also agree that I haven't loved an album of theirs since Vices & Virtues. That was such a great album.

I don't know, Brendon is obviously a ridiculously talented guy, but I can't help but feel like he benefitted a lot by having an actual band, even when it was just with Spencer left. Maybe having other people around reigned him in a little? I feel like back then, their albums felt like mostly cohesive pieces of work, whereas the solo albums have been all over the place and disjointed.

I've long ago accepted that they'll never make something I'll love as much as Fever/Vices & Virtues, but outside of a spare few tracks, much of their output has been very bland to me since Panic! became a solo act.

Yeah, that's exactly it. The chorus just ends up sounding like another (very good, if it were in the right context) pre-chorus.

Wasn't as bad as it's sorta been made to seem here, but I liked it. Very Hot Hot Heat-ish.

if it sounds like hot hot heat that explains why I really don’t like it. hot hot heat was just awful from what I remember. That whole wave like Jet, the hives, Franz F, etc all of those were just terrible. Awful little side genre that thank god only lasted a few years
