Woah Midnight Math sounds like it could’ve fit right onto Tigers on Trains’ Foundry album, which I love

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Just now catching up to this thread and all the new Souveneer music I've missed the last few years. Is a new EP or LP on the way that will include Origin Story and Midnight Math?

Also I would love a third volume of the acoustic covers.

New EP. He's dropping all the songs one at a time until it's all out is my understanding.

How The Republic of Wolves never took off is crazy to me. Every album is awesome and they put out so much good content. I’m not really expecting a follow up to Shrine, but my goodness how cool that would be to get a new EP or something from the guys.

Cool to hear more Souveneer and Tigers on Trains. 9 song EP….hahaha….sounds good to me.

I will be okay. everything Supporter

It is really wild to me with how big a lot of bands got who were basically doing what they did but worse. Shame that they’re probably done, but I’m glad mason is still making music

Yeah, they went viral on AP because everyone thought they were Brand New. They were great in their own way, but they played probably 10 shows ever.

There are lots of bands I listen to that I’ve never seen live. I get touring can introduce people to a new band, but considering how they got thrust into the spotlight unexpectedly with leaked demos, and the fact they made solids eps and albums to follow while the band they were compared to started taking a nose dive in every way you’d think that fanbase could have shifted.

as someone who never was huge on this band, I can confirm that this band and O'Brother have always been the two bands that I listened to because of Brand New

I love this band. but you aren’t gonna get in front of a ton of people if you don’t your with bigger well established bands.

This forum is unique and that we all probably “hunt” for music. That is a very very small minority of people.

shrine being played live in front of someone like Man Orchs crowd. Would have gained them more fans than the previous 10 yrs of band camp releases and AP brand new false hype.

I feel like Christian was a teacher or something, so not everyone is looking to try and grind out a music career and see what happens. Doesn’t mean the talent wasn’t there. The Sputnik interview is pretty bang on though.

Also, I don’t know if they ever got any invites for big bands. I remember they got a few offers from labels, but nothing must have been appealing enough to give up DIY and simple stereo set up.

yeah they can do whatever is right for them. I just don’t know how they thought shrine response was going to be any different than the previous records if the roll out was identical and didn’t include touring.

The music is great, they could have been bigger. But the approach needed to be wayyyy different.

I wasn’t surprised either regarding Shrine, but their Ep/debut should’ve got them rolling and good press. It may have made them go full in. Or not.

All the music they made is pretty fantastic, and I feel lucky to have been along for the ride and they had lots of releases.

    Newbie

Hey guys! A friend told me there was some newer discussion on this thread so I decided to take a look, and I appreciate everyone’s kind words but would love to jump in and clear something up! It’s no secret that The Republic Of Wolves was first and foremost a recording project, and it’s also no secret that touring is a traditional way for bands to grow their fanbases. We spent years trying to make touring make sense for us, gigging around New York and hoping to get put on bigger shows — and possibly even invited onto a tour with a bigger band. That never happened for us, and there were more than a few reasons why we couldn’t drop everything to sink our own money into a DIY tour. When we were invited to play eight dates on Warped Tour we eagerly accepted and we had a blast, but that didn’t lead to other opportunities or a noticeable increase in our fanbase. It could be that we just didn’t put on all that great of a show, but we certainly tried our best on that front. Over the years we played dozens of shows for little or no pay, pretty consistently losing money on practice spaces, transportation, et cetera. I’m not complaining — it’s a gamble, and we put in all the time and money that we logistically could without sacrificing our mental/physical health or relationships.

At a certain point it became clear that if anything was going to change for that project, it would start with getting our recordings noticed, rather than continuing to play shows at a loss. In light of that, we did everything we possibly could to get “shrine” noticed by people, and a lot of that work isn’t visible to those on the outside. Sinking money into PR campaigns, reaching out to contacts in licensing and publishing, trying to find management, creating artwork and assets and social media content, and occasionally continuing to perform whenever the opportunity arose. We never gave anything less than 100% at our shows, but the returns continued to diminish. The process of making, promoting, and releasing “shrine” was certainly different and more intense than anything we’d done in the past, so we hoped that maybe there’d be a reaction that could lift us to the point where proper touring was feasible. But we weren’t owed anything, and we had no expectations. We just loved the music and hoped it would reach people.

If you’re an artist and this isn’t reflective of your experience that’s fine, but I wanted to make sure there weren’t any big misconceptions about our experience with regard to touring and promotion and whatnot. Thanks for continuing to support us!

(Also, I hope my jumping in here doesn’t dissuade anyone from sharing their [brutally] honest opinions about our music, I probably won’t be following closely but I’m also very OK with happening across criticism)

If anything we’re just sad you weren’t bigger. Lots of talent all across the projects.

Yeah would echo the above comment. I wish TROW was as big as some of the other similar bands on this site because the music warrants that level of success :)
I live in SD and never got a change to see you, so my support has always just been vinyl and spotify streams.

Worry if you want is top 10 song for me from the last 5 Years. Thanks for the jams :)

    Thanks for the reply Mason.

If the goal was to make a positive impact on people then you succeeded. It’s unfortunate that the business side of music is so fascinated by what’s fashionable and trendy that it misses it out the stuff with talent and depth way too often.

I actually really loved how much of a “recording band” or “artist” you and the guys have always been. It always feels like there has been a steady flow of content from Souveneer, The Republic of Wolves, Tigers on Trains, as well as Year Fifteen and American Gospel. Please just keep making music. You definitely have some dedicated fans who want to see you guys succeed and have bought the albums online (or directly from you guys with Shrine deluxe).

I know it’s fools hope, but we all wish there was a way for all the projects to continue (which is not very realistic financially, geographically, and maybe even artistically). But all new music is vey welcome and looking forward to hearing the new EP
