Hahahaha. I appreciate complexity, but I’ve lost the entire plot at times. I also wish we had more Terath. (I do this in audiobooks so sorry if my spelling is off.)

 

Omg I’m also reading Chorus Of Dragons right now, I’m in the second half of the third book and I also feel like I’m loosing the thread

 

Should I rename this "The Fantasy/Sci-Fi Books Thread"...?

Related: should I re-read Hyperion before reading the next three or does someone have a good refresher? It's been a few years.

 

Yeah, the 2 usually go hand in hand anyway and we talk a lot of sci-fi so it would be simpler.

That's so weird. I actually added Hyperion onto my TBR today because i heard there is a movie or something coming out!

I think thats what i saw then decided to add it to my TBR.

I've decided to try Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb as my next big fantasy series. Tried book 1 years ago and wasn't too into it but all i hear are good things so going to keep going this time - i think.

Also got an ARC of Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett which im about 25% through - going really well. Will be interesting to see how he finished the Founders trilogy but i also want to read Joe Abercrombie because, again, another one who gets a lot of praise.

 

I picked up Foundryside in an Audible sale recently. And a Robin Hobb book (the first in the Farseer).

I think I'm going to try and knock out a lot of trilogies/quartets for the next little bit... and then dive headlong into Malazan.

 

Founders is nice - magic can get pretty confusing but the ending is on par with a Sanderlanche. I'll maybe try post my thoughts on Hobb. I was gonna do Malazan but i think i need to just set some time out for that!

 

I started typing out a summary for you, got about a third of the way through, then looked it up and realized that the Wikipedia article on the book is actually really solid. So I'd just go with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperion_(Simmons_novel) as a refresher haha.

In other news, I just finished The Lies of Locke Lamora on audiobook and it was a highly entertaining listen.

 

I did Lies a few years back. It was pretty fun, but I also didn't feel compelled to keep going in the series. Anyone here want to sway me otherwise?

 

why not add another multiple book saga that isn't finished yet to your list? the more the merrier!

I'm sitting on that, ASoIaF (LOL), and Stormlight.

 

I've thought about reading that but every time I almost pull the trigger I'm reminded it's a "heist" book and am immediately turned off. A genre I do not like at all. It's on my list though.

 

Six of Crows is a very fun, YA fantasy heist book.

 

Lies is amazing but I feel like he’s never gonna finish that series

Yeah, I trust Sanderson is going to finish it. Guy is an absolute machine

 

Remember when we all thought Sanderson was dying, but in actuality he accidentally wrote five extra books.

 

Oh, I just got here, I can explain, That's Tyentso, the Emperor who did that stuff. Thurvishar and Sarena, the one's writing the book, were who I was talking about.

 

I’m about 65% through the book now and a little more in touch with everything/one now that I’m back in it. But I’m still not loving it as much as I used to.

 

I searched this thread for posts mentioning James Islington's Licanius Trilogy, but I only found a few. I just finished the first book and I'm about to start the second, but I did find myself becoming actively confused more than a few times between a lot of the names of both characters and locations while reading the first book. I did enjoy the book a lot, but I'm wondering if anyone else who read this trilogy experienced something similar. On two separate occasions I had to specifically stop reading and go try to Google who a character was because the way they came into the scene I knew they had been mentioned somewhere before but I couldn't remember / figure out who the hell they were. I found a map on the author's website, but it's not very detailed and didn't really help answer any of my location questions, such as where the two Tol's that are left are actually located. (Eventually had a solid grasp of where Tol Athian is located, obviously, but I still have no idea where Tol Shen is located.) At one point I started reading the glossary of character and location names on the author's website, but it gave away plot points and I wasn't trying to spoil the story, I was just trying to get a grasp on who the characters were and where things were happening.

*Edited to add that I'm actively reading it, like a few chapters every day, and never going more than a day or two without reading at least a little bit.

I just finished the entire trilogy a few months ago! A couple of the names were almost too similar at times, but the narrator's inflecting to reflect who was who definitely helped me with that. If it helps: Tol Athian is in Ilin Illan, and Tol Shen is in Prythe.

 

Right now I'm reading the books, but maybe I'll pick up the audiobooks too. When I can afford it, I like to get both versions and bounce back and forth depending on what's going on.
