not to take this thread off topic but this reminds me of a post I saw a few days ago on Twitter of someone saying “I’m definitely straight but this shit is cool” or something to that affect and the person posted some pictures of a sunset over a city skyline and the top comment was “is it gay to like sunsets or skylines?” And you post made me immediately think of that

As for Chapelle responding that way to how the people got to the show - that’s basically how kids who just got their license would respond to their friends because they're cool enough to drive and others are not in like 2004. So bizarre and makes no sense but what else is new

  2. Joke’s on him cuz the kids saved money by having their parents drive rather than paying for an Uber that costs 4 times as high just because there’s a show going on.

I really don't know what the hell happened to Chappelle, he used to be such an amazing and inventive comedian. I think getting real criticism for the first time must have made him snap or something and feel the need to constantly double down. Does he even talk about anything else onstage anymore?

It seems despite all that insight he still isn't familiar with the definition of coping lol

They aren't wrong. His show was funny when I was in middle school but it did not age well at all

  9. I never even thought his show was funny back in the day. Ha

White men in their 30’s and 40’s love the show because there are joke about Black people with the n word. They eat it up.

  11. He also left the show over a sketch he found racially offensive, which is absolutely his right, but also ironic considering the attitude he's taken (and apparently long-held)

I think it wasn’t so much the sketch that he found offensive, but that he saw a white person laugh at a sketch where he played minstrels in a way that rubbed him the wrong way and he thought he wasn’t parodying stereotypes, but reinforcing them. It’s pretty ironic now that he doesn’t have that same kind of reflection.

Everyday, I inch closer to canceling my Netflix subscription. There is nothing to be gained from another Ricky Gervais special and yet they keep paying him for them.

Was Stephen Merchant secretly the brains behind The Office and Extras?

At the very least, I think he kept Ricky’s ego in check. It’s so disappointing because I love The UK Office, Extras and The Ricky Gervais Show podcast made a very depressing summer for me much brighter. But he’s been such a mean, ugly shithead for the past decade or so that it’s tough to watch anything involving him.

Meanwhile, it’s been fun rooting for Merchant and the variety of stuff he’s involved in.

I guess a possible upside to all this is, assuming he still holds up (so much disgraced celeb lore to keep track of these days) is at least Karl finally gets to know what feeling schadenfreude all the time from listening to a dumber co-host is like.

James is from the same hometown as me, and he is hands down the best thing to come from there. It's got a real element of the typical little Britain mentality amongst the over 40's. I think they voted like 78% for Brexit and is a Conservative stronghold despite going from a middling but decent place to a genuinely struggling, under funded town in the 17 years under them.

So seeing him doing well and then using his platform to stand up for the trans community when no one asked him to makes me feel pretty proud. The exact opposite to Ricky, who has slowly got more and more embarrassing.
