Conor played two songs and left the stage tonight. Band did part of the set with fans singing.

Really hope Conor is ok. I thought he was pretty drunk back when they played Chicago.

he was hammered in okc on thursday and there seemed like some tension with him and the band at one point. It was pretty bad

you know I didn't want to jump into the discussion earlier when people were talking about his stage presence/drinking. I thought it was equally possible that this was "conor being conor" or a deeper sign of a bigger issue. This should put that conversation to rest - there's a problem here.

he did come back though and finish the set right?

    yikes. hope he gets help.

Edit: Not to be armchair psychiatrist or anything, but I think it's telling that in the video above from two days ago, conor calls all of bright eyes's songs " little existential melodramas about his stupid fucking life" and says that "one for you one for me" is the only song he cares about.

which is sad in a way. conor seems a bit over the bright eyes reunion already.

  12. I hope I still get to see them in September. part of me wonders if he wants to do this tour at all.

I absolutely get it too. Maybe not the heavy drinking, but I totally understand, as a writer, the feeling of being completely over/disconnected/embarrassed by your old work and yet having it still hang over your head as a touchstone. sometimes I'll find myself reading something I wrote when I was 20 and thinking it's trash, but also knowing it was one of my best received publications. maybe if they worked in some solo material he'd be happier.

I think they overreached with the size of this tour. His body language is honestly horrible. conor's been drunk on stage /falling over / a mess before but he's rarely been this... pathetic. It doesn't even seem alcohol/substance related to me. Even in the "Dance and Sing" late night clip it feels to me like he's struggling to care.

tl'dr: probably a cocktail of depression, touring rigors, alcohol and a dash of feeling like a nostalgia act

  16. plays two songs and leaves the stage? he's been reported to be out of sorts at a show so many times this year. if he needs help I hope he gets it. and don't get me wrong I am so excited that this band once again exists and that I'm seeing them in 3 and a half months, but I have seen musicians I admire fall apart. I have seen them break down. seen them attempt to and succeed in taking their own lives. seven weeks elapsed between me seeing Frightened Rabbit in London and Scott Hutchison leaving us. seven weeks.

    I'm worried. I don't know if I should be, but I'm worried.

Don't want to pile on with conjecture but he did seem a lot healthier and happy around the BOCC era. Obviously the pandemic was really hard on him and trying to release the first new Bright Eyes record and tour in the peak of the pandemic must have also taken its toll.

If stepping away from music/this tour is what Conor needs right now, they (the band, dead oceans, management) should make sure that happens. I'm also well aware someone struggling with substance abuse has to want get better themselves and it doesn't seem like Conor is there yet.

yeahhhh im not gonna project on conor's mental well-being and whether or not he'll be alive in a few months (?) because he drinks too much before performing

maybe they should cancel the tour. maybe he shouldn't be performing right now. that's as far as i feel comfortable going with this.

This tour has to be cancelled. Being on the road is not the place for someone to be struggling like that.

would be a shame if they had to shut it down. the band sounds so good right now. That vid above is proof.

I saw Conor live a few times and it was always great. In August I finally have the chance to see Bright Eyes for the first time and I have been looking forward to this for many years. Especially since the show has been postponed during the last two years. That last video got me worried a bit and I hope Conor is ok. Is there any update or something? Did they have a show today?

people in here will still say he must cancel despite them having a pretty large team that probably depends on the tour for cash
