    The rivalry is back on

I agree to an extent and I was PUMPED when Ancient Names came out as the lead single because that song was a new sound that I hadn’t heard them do before and they did it incredibly well. Then the other singles (“Wait by the River” and “When the Night is Over”) kinda went back to their comfort zone that they really grooved into on Strange Trails and the rest of the album splits the difference between the two where there’s a couple songs that feel very distinct from the rest of their catalog and then a larger majority are pretty similar to their first couple albums

And to clarify, that’s not a knock — they’re really really good at that sound and Lonesome Dreams is an all time favorite of mine

    Regular

I honestly gotta disagree. The only song I could see on the first two albums would be Back from the Edge. The rest of the songs have a completely different sound pallete and style. Even Wait by the River is more dream pop/psychadelic inspired.

Lost in Time and Space sounds kinda similar, but it'd be drastically out of place on the first two. Then you have songs like Never Ever, Ancient Names 1/2, Secret of Life, The Balancer's Eye, Moonbeam, Vide Noir, and Emerald Star which are just a completely unique sound not just for them but indie music in general.

It's easily their most original album imo.

I think it’s because I saw them during the Vide Noir tour that I wasn’t so in love with them. I’ve since gone back during the pandemic and started at the beginning.

Finally got around to listening to this and much like every Lord Huron album, I love 4-5 tracks and couldn't tell you what the rest sound like.

Long Lost is excellent though. Love those strings.

I think this is how I feel too. I have enjoyed their other records, but Lonesome Dream just has this vibe to it that’s hard to replicate or top for me.
