Imagine shitting on HTL, but praising this band. At least HTL tried to evolve and released their best music when they did. Invicta and This is a Stickup are better than anything SC has done the last few albums lol

kind of a major stretch to read anything i've said in this thread as praising SC much

    also reading is fun

To be fair, the ceiling is only so high for what you can do with pop punk. All I ask for is a fun album and this does that at the perfect time of year. This is a “cruising down the highway with the windows down singing along” album.

That is true. I just think if SC went down made an Invicta or Coming Home type album they could do something special. The bands obviously talented and I think they could be making more thoughtful music.

My bad. Sorry if I came off as snarky or condescending. I just like good discussion but can see how my tone could have been better.

This is where I am with this record. I think I was expecting/hoping them to branch out a bit more of the pop punk bubble. Similar to how The Story So Far and other such peers.

This record is fine but that's all it is for me. I've listened to it about 3-4 times and I find myself just kinda zoning out on it. Find myself being more interested in going back to the new Simple Plan record instead

Yep it’s the same issue I’ve had with bands like Neck Deep and Knucklepuck. They’ve failed to evolve and the music gets stale after multiple albums with no progression. TSSF, TWY and the last Real Friends album with Dan are great examples of the progression I like to see within the scene. The SP album is definitely more enjoyable than this and I’m not even a huge fan of them.

That last TSSF album is a gamechanger and with Parker pushing No Pressure I am all for it.

This isn’t specific to anyone in this thread or even this site, this is just a babbling comment - I have no idea how people review entertainment for a living.

Example here being, I have never heard this band before so this album while not unique, is fun and serves the purpose I need of a summer pop punk record. I certainly get that if this is the type of record they’ve made a few times now some will like that and some will want growth in other ways and if my job was to review music I’m assuming it would go better if I listened to all their previous stuff, but like… even then, something can connect with you right away and stay with or fall off and come back later or not click for 10 years or who knows what so I’m always amazed at all the people that review entertainment but there’s a trillion ways the reviewer could be biased or out of their element.

Anyway, to do list items including listen to State Champs back catalog and at least the TSSF album mentioned in here (although again, listening to their albums in order might make that one resonate more / understand their change better than just listening to that one)

Add Real Friends and The Wonder Years and you are good.

It also blows my mind that TSSF and RF released their two best records in the same year.

Another Pop Punk band that has really progressed is Seaway.

    Things have changed.

... and No Pressure has an accused rapist in the band so fuck them all.

Just checked and can confirm this is true. This person also plays in Regulate for those who want to be in the know.

This is fine pop punk but feels like watered down State Champs in order to take advantage of the mgk pop punk wave going on rn

Gonna put it on my best of 2022 album list *again* because until it’s beaten, it’s the champion.

Honestly, this is their worst album but it's still super fun and pretty consistent.

I don't listen to Champs for anything but fun pop punk.

I don’t think they are the greatest ever but summer bones blows this out of the water.

Hard disagree, this one is pretty average and I still think it’s way better
