first half has nothing as catchy as the best of Damn. and nothing as provocative as TPAB. not feeling it

Die Hard and Count Me In are two of his more traditional pop songs, maybe ever!

TBF he is usually bad at crafting a hook

this is an album. may revisit Savior and Mr. Morale... but otherwise, this isn't working on most levels for me, despite lyrical density and really interesting music mostly throughout. "Mother I Sober" almost doesn't seem to fit the rest of the album, but I'm sure there's a lot of little lyrical connections regarding it that make it fit thematically. extremely personal song in a new direction from him that I appreciate.

don't think this is for me, too dense/heavy for what I'm looking for right now

On listen 3 and I think there’s a good chunk of songs catchier than anything on DAMN. and the rapping and production feels more complex as well, listen 1 was hard to gather my thoughts because of Kodak and the weird/uncomfortable lines on a few tracks

Not at all feeling this and knowing that a rapist was featured on a few of the tracks, I really have no desire to even give this shit another listen. I refuse to support that sort of thing.

  10. not listened yet but the Kodak shit is just a massive unforced error

There’s a lot of pieces I love here but as a whole it’s not really capturing me.

How? You could very easily plug Drake into that song and it'd probably be a moderate hit. Super catchy features too

Guys, the album has been out for less than 12 hours.

    Some of these takes are...excessive.

I think it should have been released with a video pre launch. Would have been a lot less jarring for people that way.

This has a lot of really great stuff on it. The lyrics can be challenging/abrasive at times but I don’t think they’re egregious even if I might disagree with some of the sentiments.

Really didn't care for this too much on the first listen. Nothing that made me feel like "I really need to dive deeper into this" the way his other albums did, and some of the production choices are not it.

first listen was an interesting one lol...

This thing is really fuckin wild, not sure how I feel yet. There are some incredible tracks. But even though every Kendrick album has had some "not sure how I feel about that one, will need to revisit", this is the first album that's had some tracks where I've said "not sure how I feel about this one, but I really want the song to end now and I really am not looking forward to revisiting it". Only a couple of those but man there are some I was gritting my teeth through on first listen.
