Album’s grown on me a lot since it’s release, but I definitely still prefer BITG

def think this is their best album. the musicianship is just a little extra special throughout imo. but the last three are all worthy of being anyone’s favorite.

I’m in the minority but this record and the last one have been hit or miss. Some killer but some definite filler.

Hopefully, they’ll grow on me more over time but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Didn’t play it at my date, but that was over a month ago might have changed by now. At mine they only played Nothing to Do, Father Tracy, and Pensacola from this album.

I need to spend more time with this record, but it really didn't knock me off my feet like it has for a lot of y'all. (hence not spending a lot of time with it)

  13. I like it almost as much as I like the last one, just for a different reason. Two different vibes. Both very good records

I’m pretty burnt out on the emo/pop-punk/etc umbrella of music at this point, so the further they stand apart from their peers imo the more I like them, and to me this is easily their most distinctive and unique sounding record to date. I still love Yunahon and Basking, but I see myself growing with this album as I get older more so, whereas the prior two I see myself going back to more to reminisce about times in my life which those songs soundtracked than to actually glean any new insight from them. I feel like there’s a considerable amount I can learn from this album as a musician and songwriter myself, personally and that’s the kind of thing that keeps me inspired and energized about modern music. I’ve been kind of spoiled the last couple years in that there have been a pretty significant amount of records like that for me lately; this, Dijon, Big Thief, Nilüfer Yanya, Another Michael, Japanese Breakfast, just to list a few.

and this isn’t me trying to condescend or yuck other people’s yum at all, like I don’t think I am better than anyone else just because I hear these qualities in the music others may not, or that they like styles of music I feel like I am mostly over, or just seek different things from music in general (or just disagree with my assertions of the quality of the album). it’s just me kinda rambling in an attempt to express how my outlook and taste has pretty dramatically shifted over recent years, bc I have been thinking a lot recently in general about how changed I am from where I was just 2 years ago. bottom line tho, this is one of the best bands going now in my eyes regardless, and I’m very excited to see how they continue to grow.

they’ve been really good at dropping records at the perfect time for where I am at in my life. I don’t think had they released this album in 2019 I would hold it in anywhere near the esteem I do now, and same for Basking, if that was what I was discovering them thru in 2017 instead of Yunahon, I probably would have been less intrigued by it. instead I have ended up liking each record more than the last after a few listens bc they’ve just all been literally like they had made them specifically for me at that point in time. I feel blessed to have amazing memories associated with each of them.

I didn’t love it at first but it’s grown on me quite a bit. I do think I like BITG and Yunahon more than this though.
