where would i be if i was my brain Prestigious

Pretty sure most accurate is gonna be a chest strap. I've got a Garmin step tracker and my garmin forerunner that will track my HR. Haven't gone back and compared the info though.

I use my Coros watch but usually at least once during every run for about a minute it says my heart rate drops to like 105 and then goes back to 150-170 range so I know it’s not perfect so I just use it as a general guide for how hard I’m pushing it

Can you link it? I have a running shirt with a map of the US on the back that I've colored in as I've completed states, but this sounds better and more likely to last a long time.

While technically it is still baaaaaarely attached I’m just gonna mark today as the day I lost my first toenail. Started packing its bags during my Iowa marathon on 3/19 and today it basically has vacated my body. RIP middle right toe toenail.

My new shoes should be here on Monday. Hopefully the pollen is done after this last monster storm and I can get back outside.

The new On Cloudmonster. I got to try on a prototype a few months back and it’s like walking on air. My friend is a rep so I get huge discounts on On products. I ran both my marathon and my half in Cloudswifts and couldn’t be happier.

fancy! I’ve heard good things about On.

I may have to give it a go again to try and if in other shoe types / brands. I only run in New Balance 860’s and I tried last year to mix in Hoka, Asics and something else but just tore my feet apart. Maybe Hoka’s were too big of a difference or maybe I wore the different new shoes too often, who knows. I do trail running in Brooks without issue but would like to have a different type of road shoe but i need stability type shoes so I think that limits my options as well.

I definitely recommend trying out the On. On their website each shoe comes with a little “usage guide” for like Road vs Trail and short distance vs long distance. I think they even have a quiz where you can identify needs like stability and such to identify the right shoe.

New shoes came in. They’re so comfortable. Very excited to get back on the green way.

Can also confirm cloudmonsters are dope, I took them out for a 4 mile run yesterday after they got delivered and I trimmed off like 40 seconds a mile in them

Greeting from Schaumburg, IL. Finished the Chicagoland Spring marathon about two hours ago.

Of the 3 I’ve done this one was by far the most gruesome. And the first 8 miles went about as perfect as can be! It was already hot at the start (hot to me for running, 70) but at idk mile 6 the sun came out and there were large areas of the course with no foliage and it was not windy. By the “half way there” sign and music (which, imo should never be indicated lol) I was seriously worried and thinking I should stop. I wasn’t sweating anymore and my hands were cold and a bit shaky.

stopped at an aid station and poured 7-8 cups of water on me, drank some and some Gatorade and contemplated DNFing. But, had no idea how I’d get back to my hotel and don’t have Uber or Lyft on my phone so fuck, I’d be walking most the same direction anyway since there’s only one path, let’s just keep going. So my goal times got trashed and the name of the game was to finish which I did. Absolutely the hardest thing I’ve done and probably type 5 dumbest for what my condition was approaching but can’t take it back now.

Met a lot of super nice people before, during and after. Oddly felt like the comraderie of a trail run which is unusual for a marathon - and this one had 1,500 people across all the events. Schaumburg is also a super nice and chill city.

lots of motivation to continue but one of the more humorous and selfish ones is I just got a marathon map tracker from my department at work and bought one myself a few weeks earlier and all I could think was, “I’m finishing this even if I have to walk the last 12 miles because I am NOT going home empty handed to stare at the fucking empty space of Illinois if I don’t finish” :crylaugh:

Finishing is the only thing that matters. Congrats!

Would not want to run a marathon in any temp over 60.

    thanks!

even with all the “bad” stuff that happened, I am very happy to report that my strength training DEFINITELY helped and I see a noticeable difference in my legs from Iowa in March to now. I know to some degree I will feel things tomorrow and later in the week that I don’t feel now but my quads are not shot at all compared to what they were after Iowa. Super excited to see/feel that and know that changes to my training are working. Today was just a matter of heat being a big problem and with spring just starting I haven’t been able to build up heat tolerance (not that I do; summer always kills me on runs)

Oh good, now I have covid. That will surely help with recovery.

Damn, seeing the news about the number of people being hospitalized from the Brooklyn half marathon today most likely due to heat. That shit is no joke. Stay safe out their folks.

Finally got to go for a run today for the first time in nine days, first run since my Illinois marathon, and even though it was absolutely pouring out it was so much fun and glad that I don’t seem to have any lingering covid effects
