I need to stop reading Depp trial stuff. Came across a tiktok and it was about amber apparently saying how beautiful she felt in a red carpet look and Johnny never complimented her in it, and fans brought up pics from that event apparently and are laughing and mocking how she actually looked super ugly in it and Johnny was doing her a favor by not actively insulting her, with tens of thousands of likes. Imagine being so vile.

And so many of these women appear to identify as feminists. That's what gets me so much about this trial. Women who identify as progressive and feminist are behaving abbhorently. You can not believe amber and also not mock her appearance at the same time. I feel like they're so desperate to be seen as fair and wanting ppl to know they acknowledge men are victims too that they've just lost it.

Edit: omg and apparently it's not even the real red carpet look she referenced in her testimony. Not that it matters but shows they will truly due anything to tear a confident woman down and will lie to push that narrative

Like how do they not realize that using their "body language expert" skills and making judgements about how amber doesn't look like a real victim is so harmful?? Amber could be legit lying thru her teeth and it literally doesn't matter, it's so harmful what they're doing to survivors. I recently spoke to my bf who I love and trust and feel safe with about like one small vague example of abuse I went thru in an old relationship and could barely breathe and get thru it. Imagine talking specifics in a courtroom in front of ur abuser knowing it's broadcast publicly and being ripped apart by millions and try to act "correctly."

They don't seem to realize it's not just amber being impacted. She likely knows the direction the public discourse is going but (hopefully) won't see someone's specific tweet or tiktok. But thousands of abuse survivors will see them and feel like absolute garbage and possibly not come forward as a result. It's deplorable.

the internalized misogyny and ableism is really getting to me , like it feels like we made so much progress on being open and supportive about mental health but I guess not

Tbh it feels like Me Too and "politically correct" backlash or something. It's so discouraging. I feel like every time it seems like society is making progress, backlash pulls it back and we just do this back and forth thing fighting for fair treatment.

I haven't been paying much attention either but even I feel like discourse is incredibly one sided, and like, juvenile, it's hard to tell who's trying too hard to be "men can be victims too" feminist and who's MRA

I’ve done my level best to completely ignore it but whenever I do hear about it, it’s ALWAYS pro-Depp and aggressively anti-Heard in an extremely gross way.

I have a good friend who is very pro-Depp and it's taken over her entire personality. It's all she ever tweets about now. She's always been someone who hyper-fixates on things, but it's making me feel very uneasy how deep into it she is.

There’s a video (probably many judging by how many people were there filming it for some reason) of Depp fans outside the courthouse and when a pick up truck with tinted windows leave these people believe that Amber is in the truck and one of them yells “get a life!” to a stranger who does not impact their life at all while wasting their day standing outside a courthouse on a weekday…

something about pots and kettles or stones in glass houses.

I also went out for drinks with some friends I hadn’t seen in a few months earlier this week and within a half hour one of them randomly brought up the Depp trial and I immediately said, “what the fuck are you going on about? Are you that boring or are we that boring to talk to that this is the topic of conversation?” and then that friend left because we didn’t want to listen to her tell us what Depp said that day.

totally blown away that it was happening and felt like i was on set of fucking TMZ or some shit.

Eh, I get the impulse. I’m fully sick of Depp’s little minions constantly trying to evangelize on his behalf. If someone I knew personally was doing it I’d probably snap at them too.

I think they left because you were being an asshole not because you didn’t care about Johnny Depp.

A coworker asked me the other day if I had been following the trial and I simply said “no” and that shut down the conversation lol.

Same happened to me. A co-worker who’s a big Depp fan asked me my thoughts and I just said I’m not paying attention and I ‘d rather not talk about it because there’s no way I could state my thoughts to him that wouldn’t result in a long-winded argument.

Also - had no idea Fred Savage has a long history of harassment and verbal abuse to his co-workers. What an asshole.

I saw this earlier, plus posts about how she directly copied lines from The Talented Mr Ripley during her testimony. Never mind that the whole thing is being live streamed so you can watch it back and completely debunk that? It's so weird.

Don’t know if they’ve mentioned him on the podcast. He hasn’t directed an ep in a long time.

Lol yeah I saw a tweet comparing all the lines she stole and they were not even the same. But now people have made fake text quotes where they're saying she quoted the movies word by word and presenting it as fact. For ppl who just scroll and don't look further or look for the actual audios but see a bunch of posts presenting it as facts, they'll def believe it.

And even if they were very similar idg the problem. There have been cliches and sentiments I've taken from books and movies along the years because they're relatable. I've def used song lyrics as inspiration to frame my feelings often because it gets across my sentiment better and more succinctly than I can. Doesn't mean they're not real feelings lol

The weirdest one I saw was saying that she copied a line from Notting Hill because she said that Depp drank 'lots of tea'. It's absolutely bizarre lol.

If anyone brings it up to me in real life I just tell them to look up his UK case against The Sun that he lost, despite it being way easier to win libel cases in the UK than the US. I'm in the UK and it seems like everyone who has mentioned the US trial to me don't know that the libel case even happened.
