I don't think you're in the minority - I think the majority of people feel this way. I think it just happens to appeal to me, my taste in music can lean more towards the Yellowcard melodic pop-punk vibe, so the last Silverstein record actually struck a nice chord with me between the harder stuff I love and the more melodic stuff that I also listen to.

 

Last record was very good and this one is even better.

 

Yeah, I dig a lot of Silverstein’s poppier stuff. Songs like Aquamarine, Still Dreaming, Hide Your Secrets, Discovering the Waterfront are great. Those songs had more pop punk/emo sensibilities than I enjoy. This new poppiness sound is more geared the Metalcore radio friendly stuff like the poppy parts of Ice Nine Kills, I Prevail and Sleeping With Sirens than pop punk, which is why I’m not digging it.

 

I hope you are right and it is better than the last one.

 

All of the new songs are great, last album was great too. Band wrote the same album 8 times and Dead Reflection sucked, which should’ve been an EP.

 

They did write the same album 8 times and they were all better than the last album. For real though the two best were concept albums. I’d love another one of those before they call it a day.

 

I liked the last record tons, but it definitely had a lot of filler.

It's funny, every even numbered album by them (Waterfront, Shipwreck, Wind Shifts, Dead Reflection) makes it into my favorite albums of all time, so I hope this one follows the trend.

 

They stuck with a similar sound for 8 albums but they definitely weren't all the same, they varied in quality a lot.

 

When I saw them for the WBIEF anniversary tour I revisited the album and in my opinion it has definitely not aged well.

Live they killed it.

Definitely a change in sound throughout their career.

 

Yeah they’ve definitely came a long way since that album. It’s a rough listen and I can only listen to certain songs. To say they’ve written the same album 8 times is definitely ignorant considering they’ve made small adjustments from album to album throughout their discography. Pulling off two near perfect concept records is incredibly hard to do. I think the only album that feels a bit stagnant is maybe rescue but even that albums has some classic bangers.

 

I love everything this band has done since I started listening around the release of Wind Shifts. Apparently I'm a top fan on Spotify because I got invited to a live event on Friday morning!

 

I'm not a huge fan of these guys, but they're pretty fucking consistent if you ask me. Loved DTWF and hadn't really listened to them until A Beautiful Place. I can see why long term fans fell off with the latter, but from an outsider's perspective, that record is fucking great. They crushed it with pop sensibility.

 

WBIEF is the one album that really benefits from the rerecording treatment of Redux (apart from the songs from other albums that have been reworked)

 

Redux 2 absolutely slays IMHO, particularly fond of Major Mountains.

 

I thought ABPTD was pretty good but felt a bit too diluted and I haven’t gone back to it much. While I haven’t listened to most of the MMM singles it definitely seems like they’ve nestled into that poppy hard rock/metalcore sound and most of those singles from the past 2-3 albums sound remarkably formulaic and I’m starting to really get bored with em. I thought ghost, for example, was incredible and still adore it but I feel like I’ve now heard 6 different variations of it since. Hoping the new record mixes it up a bit more.

 

Oh for sure. I wish they reinvented the tracks on Redux 1 like they did on 2 instead of being just rerecords with the exception of Still Dreaming. I also get why they did it that way though. Redux 1's purpose was more to put a fresh coat of paint on old fan favorites and they probably didn't want to mess with those tracks too much since they're already beloved tracks. For Redux 2, they chose tracks they felt were missing a little something to make them great. My Disaster 2.0 is a goddamn banger.

Yeah this is probably my least favorite they’ve released far. Wish there was more songs like “Die Alone”. I love me some super heavy Silverstein.

 

Drip Drip Drip

Honestly this is probably the heaviest Silverstein album in a while. Obviously there's the more melodic songs too, but there's this dark vibe over the whole album, and I love it. "The Altar" is just a straight up banger, and it's glorious. Also the mid-2000's riffage on "Don't Wait Up" is so nostalgic. So excited to hear these songs live this fall!

 

The Altar/Mary is probably the weirdest track they've ever done tbh

when it started I said “oh this one is for all the complaining fans” and then it got stranger and stranger. I’m into it, but the ‘we only want heavy’ crowd probably won’t be

 

is there a guest on the first soft part of "The Alter"? doesn't sound like Shane.

 

I think "Ultraviolet" is my highlight after one listen but the only song I wasn't really into was "Bankrupt" so much better than the last album!
