The last 2 seasons were repetitive. They should have had a solid 3 season arc for the show.

 

What in the hell was the point of bringing that Rachel character back from season 1 or whenever?

 

show was one season too long obviously. It was a fun ride for the first 3 seasons but this season should have been different or the should have gone in a different direction or something. I was definitely like come on, lets get to it! I dont need any MORE going in circles.

Ending was, well, I always say I hate happy endings and we CERTAINLY dont get that. Obviously not a "satisfying" ending by any means. Normally I'm super duper okay with that, but this one definitely leaves you feeling icky. Not even closure honestly because they're still stuck due to the ending no? The Byrde's I mean. Ruth has to run the casino to launder for the FBI plan to work no? Or do the Byrde's stay? Like this shit can keep going forever with this ending. Also, there has been like NO indication that Jonah would do that. Obviously the entire fanbase is going to be gutted for Ruth but that's not really a huge deal breaker

 

My review:

 

It took me a good 10 minutes of research to even remember who that character was. It's been like two years since I've seen season one and I didn't remember her at all lol

 

Wait, I just read a review that suggested Jonah shot the goat thing instead of the PI to shatter the evidence.
That's even dumber than the perceived ending. And also highly impractical.

 

I search reviews hoping to find one that trashes this season as much as it deserves, but nope

 

I expected a lot of pushback as well, but the subreddit is head over heels for it, acting like everything is some sort of deep symbolism. I truly don't get it.

I saw people posting long explanations for why the card wreck was the Byrdes' sign to keep going on with the laundering because they would always come out unscathed. Showing/telling the audience that the main characters have impenetrable plot armor for no particular narrative reason is not good writing nor is it good symbolism.

If anything, you could have interpreted that scene to mean that the priest was right: their time was coming so they should get out now (and repent) while they had the chance. But nah, just have other characters show up to their house, solo and unarmed, to say "I GOT YOU NOW!" and then act like the Byrdes are just too clever.

 

Yeah the second half of this season is just truly one of the laziest things ever written.

 

You guys are being a little dramatic. The ending didn't stick the landing and show ran one year too long, but otherwise it was pretty on par to what the show was for 4 years.

Jonah shooting the jar actually makes more sense honestly

 

What purpose would shooting the cookie jar serve as opposed to shooting the PI? For one, he’s holding the jar directly in front of his body so there’s hardly any chance of shooting the cookie jar without shooting him anyway. And also, if the PI lives but the jar is destroyed, that does nothing besides potentially spread DNA evidence all over the yard (he states there were bone and teeth fragments in there). Not sure I follow.

 

I just laugh at the guy going back to Chicago and being like "man Ben loves those goats, I need to go back, break in and see in that goat cookie jar"

 

I also doubt the PI would be like "oh damn you almost shot me but blew up my evidence welp see you later"

 

It makes more sense then Jonah killing an innocent guy. It would be more of an intimidation factor, like don't you dare fuck with us. And as soon as he leaves they can do whatever to clear as much of the ashes as possible. Shooting the guy creates a tremendous amount of more issues for the family and is incredibly out of character for Jonah.

 

Jonah has pulled a gun before and you act like these characters are well written. The writers just made shit up as they went. It makes no sense that Jonah would even want to go back with his mom and dad.

 

Hes a kid and mom had her catharsis scene which let the kids forgive her. The kids are products of the parents.

And didn't Jonah pull on Helen or something. An evil character. I don't recall Jonah ever threatening someone just doing their job.

 

I honestly thought she got killed at the end of season 1 or something. I guess she served a purpose then, I can’t really remember. But she offered nothing in this last season.

 

Would the evidence even be admissible since it wasn’t seized properly?

 

Again, Jonah not killing him is kind of impossible though because from the angle we see, he can’t hit the cookie jar without blasting a hole through the PI. So the argument of “Jonah wouldn’t do that” is kind of not even a factor. That dude is most certainly dead.

And if they were just going for intimidation, why did he even need to shoot at all? Could he not have just used the gun to make him hand over the jar? They can’t “just cover up” the ashes if they let the PI go, especially if he immediately comes back with the authorities. Not only is it dark outside, but if they miss even a single bone fragment or tooth out there, they’re toast.

The simplest explanation is that the PI is just a complete moron and the family just killed him and won’t get caught because the show has done it a dozen times at this point.

 

At this point we just need another season

Apparently it was supposed to be a near death experience that bonds then back together thus justifying Jonah shooting the detective. Absolutely nonsense.

 

Actual ending, Jonah sneezed as he pulled the trigger and accidentally killed Wendy

 

The gun shot was actually the ghost of Buddy shooting Jonah, turns out he hated that piece of shit

I think what actually happens is honestly irrelevant. No matter what, the show doesn't advance or change. Just another thing to cover up.

But Jonah straight up murdering an innocent guy would be completely different and out of character though. Thats taking turning Jonah, a sorta moral compass for the show, and turning him into a murderer. Not sure why the show would want to end like that.
