I like country Wilco, but Ode to Joy was such a return to form in my opinion, I’m a little bummed, I’m sure this will be great though.

They’re definitely better than Wilco (The Album) and The Whole Love. Schmilco in particular I am very fond of, such a weird little thing.

  10. I think the last Wilco album I loved was Star Wars. Revisiting Ode to Joy now because I think I had a headache when I listened to it on release and never went back to it. I like the idea of this record a lot, single sounds pretty good.

  11. I think my issue with Ode to Joy (and even Schmilco at times, but to a much lesser extent) is just that the songs are so subdued and quiet that I barely feel like I'm listening to music lol it's hard for me to latch onto anything. Maybe I just need to give them a more focused headphones listen.

Ode to Joy is like the subdued quiet brother to YHF. It’s like a Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Schmilco baby. I honestly think it’s a top 5 Wilco record

I’ve actually preferred some of Tweedy’s solo stuff to the last couple Wilco albums, but this sounds right up my alley, and even better that it’s a double album.

The Whole Love is a thousand times better than any album they put out after it imo. (And the two before!) I think it’s super strong. Maybe exception for Warm - haven’t listened to that a ton as it came out in a time I was pretty burned out on the band, but it’s really fantastic.

Ode to Joy was a little disappointing for me - Love is Everywhere is as good a song as they have after AGIB, but the rest was a little middle of the road to me.

I do like all the albums to some degree, pretty low on Schmilco but even being harsh it’s a fine like 5/10 record.

Skimming through the track lists for those later records and while Star Wars is pretty average overall, You Satellite and Where Do I Begin are so fucking good. The last minute of the latter is so genuinely cool in a way they rarely reach after the big 4.

I’m excited for this, they feel like a band who’s better when they take big swings.

jeff shared the title track behind the paywall of his substack

also schmilco is probably my second least favorite LP ahead of the whole love. still has some bops though

This should be good but I'm hoping its followed by a full album of the loudest stuff they've ever made, for balance.

This totally slipped by me...are there no physical media options for pre-order? I'm only seeing the digital.
