Wishing you luck on your battle ❤️. I’m all about the music and do my best to separate the behavior of someone from how I view their music. It’s frustrating to see threads hijacked by topics other than music. We all have done bad things and all have issues - some are more hurtful to others than others. As I mentioned I’d likely have little music to listen to if I had to take into account the behavior of the people creating the music.

Everyone’s got their own line and that’s fine imo and biases are gonna play into what I still listen to and what’s become too much for me to handle but my life’s hard enough without worrying about what other people choose to listen to, or worrying about what people think of me still listening to various things. But again going around declaring you wish people who are clearly not good people would make music again is pure provocation and shit stirring which seems to be what started this whole thing. I can’t really get down with that, it’s one thing to listen to artists from our past for nostalgia but it’s another thing entirely to demand vindication for people who haven’t shown why they deserve it

    Maybe so, maybe not.

    @sophos34 Congrats on your recovery.

Your last point in the previous post is obviously a different can of worms, but in terms of personally and privately listening to music that comprised a major part of your life by problematic artists…the overbearing sanctimony by some folks here towards people they’ve never met and don’t even know is just beyond weird. Not trying to stir shit up but just saying I understand where your thoughts are coming from there.

sound the alarm is when chris's vocals really started to bother me, so I've never been able to get into it, except for eulogy.

it also is such an aggressive 180 from In Reverie that I dislike it for that reason too. sorry to rain on the sound the alarm praise parade, but hey, that's what I'm here for.

Eulogy is one of their best songs.

Unfortunately it's painfully real about his problem with alcohol

The morbid imagery throughout that album is so vivid and horrible but beautiful. Especially Eulogy like you mentioned, Bones, and The End.

So many awesome moments on STA.

That half time bridge into the final chorus in Head to the Hills.

Instruments dropping out and it’s just the guitar and “say you’ll never leave.”

Back end of Bones that comes out of nowhere.

Don’t Know Why in its entirety got me through some pretty tough times.

    Catchy ass riff in Diseased.

    Etc, etc.

Yeah I can honestly pretty easily say Alarm is my favorite STD record. Not that SWYA is that far behind

The band wasn't the same without Dave

    not a doctor

A friend went out of their way at Warped years ago to get one of these signed for me. It used to be on display in the living room, but it's been sitting in the corner of my room for a while now. Haven't listened to the music in a long time.

It’s just nice to remember the good memories with the band instead of the typical chorus “fuck off and die forever” thing.

I don’t really have an opinion either way whether someone should or should not listen to problematic artists, but the “they should die” crowd that pops into every thread are the weirdest people on planet earth.

lol, you all can't even have a normal discussion about a problematic band's music without having to bash on people who think they're problematic? I've never seen a thread on this website where people genuinely leave fans alone to discuss a problematic band's music for a solid day without interjecting, which y'all had, but then you had to pause and complain about social justice warriors. If you want to talk about the music, then talk about the music. Jesus.

Where should this discourse be held then? I’ve been here for less than a month and I notice a trend where a select few members tend to moderate threads more than the actual moderators. I’m not trying to come off as inflammatory.. I just don’t get it.

Talk about the music. You don’t need to complain about cancel culture if nobody is trying to cancel your conversation. The people you’re complaining about might give you enough space to talk about the music without interjecting, but when you start moaning about shit like you’re being persecuted when nobody’s even actively antagonizing you, you’re going to be called out.

For people who don’t believe in cancel culture you sure can’t keep the term out or your mouths. It’s so fucking weird and obsessive.

I'm all for talking STD but this is accurate. It's absolutely annoying. Dude doesn't want to talk cancel culture but won't shut the fuck up about it.

You can like something someone has done without actually liking someone.

For me, I can like a Saves The Day record or song I’ve known for years and still be bothered by what Chris has done and acknowledge he has issues. Some people can’t, which is fine too. People gotta figure out what they are comfortable with, and given the information, allow others to do the same. This applies to way more than just music.
