I'm sure we can all relate

 

Man, this NYC story is particularly fucked up.

 

Not my parents, but my grandpa. He retired as a LT Col in the Air Force. There were YEARS he was off doing top secret shit and his wife and kids had no idea for years and years where/what he was/doing.

Not quite the same, but my wife's great grandfather was a sales rep for Four Roses bourbon going into prohibition and after prohibition he was VP. We're PRETTY sure we know what he was doing, but there are no official records.

 

Closest thing I have to that is some of my moms cousins/2nd cousins were connected to the Irish mob in jersey at one point or another. Which is somewhat ironic because people always used to joke about my dad's side being connected to the italian mob just because they're a well known italian american family lol

 

I have a great, great, great, great grandpa who may have murdered the captain of a ship on an expedition to the north pole. I will not be expanding on this any further.

i never really knew my grandad. he lived in bumfuck nowhere, kentucky, drank whiskey all day and sold weed to live.

 

I wish any of the top secret shit I did was interesting.

One time on Christmas I heard my uncle get a call and say "this is not a secure line". He then disappeared for 6 hours and got back just before dinner. Rumor was he was picked up by a helicopter in the dirt lot behind Wal-Mart, flown to the local AFB, got on a fighter jet and flown to Texas to do some shit and flown back. Also heard he was there when they pulled Saddam out of the hole. Heard a lot more stories that the family has had to peace together throughout the years, but not sure I should share.

 

I don't recall the full specifics but my great grandfather - who died like, 25 years ago - used to smuggle cigarettes or something across state lines for the mafia in Collinwood. He used to tell us stories about hiding in homes where shooters were looking for him.

 

My Uncle was hunted once. He'd just came back from Vietnam. He was hitching through Oregon and some cop started harassing him. Next thing you know, he had a whole army of cops chasing him through the woods. He had to take 'em all out--it was a bloodbath.

 

Growing up near a military base my good friend in HS had a dad who was special forces.

He didn't talk much about what he did

 

Wonderful to read about what is happening in Brooklyn when I am going there tomorrow night and plan on taking the subway

 

Not too "graphic", just kind of awful to see the fear and panic. Sigh. So depressing.
