He fell off hard after The 20/20 Experience. I don't think he's got another good album in him, unfortunately.

He had 1 bad album cycle. That Trolls song was huge and absolutely everywhere. He hasn’t done considerably much in the last few years after MoTW, but I wouldn’t count the man out lol

That Trolls song was… pretty bad and the man’s public image has kind of gone to shit in the last few years. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like it would take a lot for him to make a comeback that salvages his legacy at this point.

Yeah, I definitely think a big comeback is possible. Imo his next album is gonna be kind of a make-or-break moment though, if it’s another weak album that doesn’t resonate much I don’t think his popularity would recover. But the flip side of that is if it’s a big return to form I think it could do really well. I feel like bringing in some new collaborators would be a good idea… I always want Timbaland involved in JT’s music but I think fresh ideas would be a good way to keep his sound relevant.

Yeah, even though Can’t Stop The Feeling was really popular I’ve never cared for that song much. Even though I think he’s only really had one bad album cycle, the amount of time he takes between albums means it’s been almost a decade since his last great project. In pop music that’s a long time.

Let me just say that I don’t hate that song but it definitely is far from his best work, or even his best single. I agree with your comment about time between releases. I also think with the MeToo movement growing during that time, and people having ruminated on the Janet Jackson thing, he’s lost a ton of goodwill and rightfully so.

I actually like this song more than Can’t Stop The Feeling, JT’s part feels like a feature to me though. Still, it’s a cool SZA track and I wish it had been bigger.

Can’t Stop The Feeling is one heck of a pop song, quit clownin'

That Timberlake/SZA song belongs in a category of Singles That Don’t Exist. I forgot that ever happened.

Maybe too harsh calling Can't Stop the Feeling "pretty bad" earlier but it's way overplayed and I can no longer enjoy it.

definitely one of the most overplayed songs.... ever?

I loved 20/20 1 so much when it came out. Still do, but don’t return to it much.

Can't Stop The Feeling was the closer on the MOTW tour. Song was massive and that tour did extremely well. He just hasn't dropped anything much since

As much of a let down as MOTW was, Say Something was still a huge hit. It peaked at #9 on the charts and went 3x Platinum.

I wouldn't say he's had a huge fall off. I'm sure he's got a whole team making sure the next album has hits. And even if it gets a lukewarm reaction, I still think he's at that baseball stadium tour level based on his back catalog.

I’d be interested too to see if Timbaland has anything left in the chamber. He pretty much fell off after “20/20 Experience” and didn’t do a ton on MOTW and the stuff he did on that wasn’t great.

There's definitely some really solid stuff on this album, particularly from "Montana" to the end of the album.

I've said it before, but if you cut the two singles from the track list, the album flows much better

But those two singles are actually pretty cool. Just don’t fit with the rest of the album.

Honestly, it's not a BAD album. It's just so stylistically confused that it's borderline incoherent as a full-album listening experience. He had a bunch of different ideas for directions that he could go in and didn't commit to anything.

20/20 Experience is definitely his best work overall.

MOTW was a huge step down minus a few songs.

I wouldn’t count him out yet, he’s known for huge gaps between albums.

Regardless of the quality of the rest of the songs on MOTW, "Filthy" was a legendarily bad choice for a first single.

exactly. Should have been bonus tracks and not the lead singles for an album that sounds nothing like them
