Wondering if I should upgrade my space grey accessories to the new black finish for no other reason other than aesthetics haha.

Got a great deal on a Macbook Air M1 yesterday.

Me who works at Best Buy: "why is there a MBA open box for only $649 in the open box cage?"
Other associate: "oh that's the one you returned for that crazy mean lady a month out of return policy because of her weird tax software issues"
Me: "oh dang. Its still here? And it's THAT cheap???"

I asked the wife if she wanted to get an upgrade to her 2015 MBP. Easy sale. IDK why Best Buy's system marked it down so low, but rules were followed and my wife got a sick deal. I'm going to hopefully do some much better GoPro footage editing on this thing instead of the 2016 9.7" (home button) iPad Pro I have.

Nice find on that! The M1 Air I bought was used from a good friend that makes a lot of money and always buys the new shiny thing. Got the $1650 configuration for $1000 with a $300 TB3 dock included for free.

Still can’t believe how fast this machine is, and it’ll cut through that GoPro footage like butter. Enjoy!!

Is open box something people normally do? I always assume it might be damaged so I never have thought about giving it a try

  9. Never done it with a computer but I buy music gear open box all the time and I've never had an issue.

I recently worked at Best Buy for about a year. Honestly I feel a lot better about open box now. That post actually has me wanting to check my old store because we always had some m1 MacBooks open box pretty often. Id recommend the protection plans or apple care though. The main thing you have to watch out for is that it wasn’t a display because a lot of Windows PCs may have been former displays, especially if they don’t have the original box. So the battery would be shit because it’s probably never cycled in it’s lifetime. But you’d be surprised how often people just “rent” things. You’d sell a laptop and then the following week they’d just return it because they needed it for a specific job or something. They get tested before being placed out.

This only made me more confused haha

Are you saying that it’s much better now than it used to be?

I’m just saying I didn’t know if it was trustworthy or not before working there. Now I know when it comes to computers and tv’s (and most things), they do get tested before they place returned items back for sale.

I sold computers. So a few times I have seen where they’d turn the old displays into open box items after testing functionality. However I wouldn’t trust the batteries in those. Usually these won’t have original boxes or accessories. More often than not, People who returned apple products almost always had the box and all the original accessories. But if you see a generic box, you might want to stay away. I could be wrong but I don’t believe they are allowed to open box Apple displays.

Either way, If you purchase an open box item I’d still recommend the geek squad protection or the apple care just in case.

just look at what happened at GDC... some fucking asshole went knowing that they're positive...

  15. yeah they should keep it this way forever - it makes the presentations crisper and more effective and opens up the developer sessions to everyone worldwide and is more inclusive

currently looking at MacOS on a 1440p 32" gaming monitor and all of a sudden 1600 bucks for that retina goodness don't seem that much any more.

As someone who owns a 34" 1440p ultrawide, I get what you mean. Part of my annoyance with Apple over the lack of monitor choices (until the Studio Display) was they've made all the assets in macOS so small now, they ONLY look good on a "retina" display. Icons, fonts, etc... all look like garbage on anything that's below 4K. While I'm happy the Studio Display exists, I'm grown accustomed to ultrawide monitors now, and I hope a decent 5K is on the horizon. I know it won't be true "retina", but I like the form factor too much to give it up.

@dylan you ever have connectivity issues with the Powerbeats pros? It wasn’t registering/recognizing having a right one, just a left one. So I decided to “forget device”, and then reset my network settings. Now all I’m getting when I’m trying to sync them back up the blinking white light from the charge case and my phone still won’t recognize them? I recently updated my phone so not sure if that could have messed it up
