Good seats for the RHCP/Strokes tour are off the charts expensive. Like $325-$350 face value. Shocking to me considering RHCP normally plays arenas for a fraction of that.

 

they haven't been with frusciante for over 15 years and have bands that headline arenas opening for them. it isn't that surprising.

 

This isn’t throwing shade at anyone but I find that the vast majority of this forum and the scene it primarily represents are very in the dark about what arena and stadium shows actually cost.

Damn. I think I really loved Barclays tonight. Just joyous, quirks and all.

 

Some other notes:

-First Under the Cover of Darkness since 2016...sick. Played a step down so Julian could hit some of the notes—crowd really brought it for that last chorus.

-Selfless sounded great. What a wonderful tune that is.

-Razorblade had a wacky ass Cumbia style interlude jam after the first verse with vocoder/autotune before it segued back into Razorblade at around half speed. Being a jam/segue enthusiast, I thought it was pretty cool but I don't know if the crowd shared my view.

-Weird freestyle in The Adults Are Talking by Julian.

-Auld Lang Syne prior to Take It or Leave It was thoroughly unrehearsed. There were confetti canons and some pass-the-mic style riffing including Hinds speaking in Spanish and Mac DeMarco singing.

-Losing out on At The Door, Someday and Ode to the Mets due to time restrictions is tough but 18 songs is a pretty good haul otherwise.

-Time restrictions driven by Julian's drunken soliloquies after almost every song. Part of the thrill of seeing The Strokes has to be whether he's going to actually go off the rails at any given moment. It's also hard to tell if there's sincerity or if it's all a bit. It seems like people were getting a bit annoyed at a certain point.

-This band rules.

 

Fuck, that’s a rad set - I’m jealous!! If only they played New York City Cops though..

Also, The Strokes is easily one of the best rock bands still kicking if you ask me.

 

They did play New York City Cops! Fourth song. Was lit!

Went last night, was a great show and so happy they played "Razorblade".

 

I've noted that ever since I started posting on this site in 2003. People would bitch about arena shows that were like $35 back in 2006.

 

It is amazing how little people understand about gross vs. net. For instance, when I was 23 years old I "grossed" $45,000 a year but that did not mean I had $45,000 sitting in my back account. People see "Tour grosses $100 million" are often like "OMG LOLZ THAT BAND HAS 100 MILLION DOLLAZ!"

 

True. But it's also a fact that concert ticket prices have far outpaced inflation. I get the various reasons for this, but I'm priced out of a lot of shows I would otherwise go to.

 

Genuine question but do you find you're priced out of club/theater shows or just arena/stadium shows? I feel like arena/stadium shows from big acts have essentially become luxury/high-end events due to live music being one of the only things we all have left that can't be replicated digitally.

 

More so arena/stadium shows, mostly because I go to smaller shows at independent venues that have $15+ in fees per ticket. I definitely go to less shows than I used to because of the price. $20-$30 is easy to justify for a band I'm casually into, but not $50+. I wouldn't mind seeing Motion City Soundtrack when they are in town this summer, but they're charging $50.95 for a club show!

I kinda feel like an old person complaining about how they used to buy a candy bar for a nickel... I look bad fondly at all the shows I went to in high school for $10-$20 that I definitely couldn't afford if I were in high school today.

 

I'd say in the past decade or so every ticket has increased at least $10-20, and sometimes doubled or tripled, for concerts and theater tickets

 

$50 for a club show is really not bad?

Not the Strokes. I’d pay pretty much anything to see them in a club lol

 

Saw The Strokes in a club in 2014 in Port Chester, NY. I think tickets were $65 + fees
