This is easily the best touché record. It's deviously catchy, the guitars and drums sound clear and perfect. Jeremy's vocals are in a great spot as well, he's improved so much as a vocalist. Lyrically they've always been pretty impressive but this album just steps it up even further.

wow. i don't think i've ever cried on a first listen to anything. obviously there are tons of records with similar subject matter but i think the specific and literal nature of the lyrics does it for me.

Received an update from Epitaph that the LP will be delayed. I had expected that at this point.

The safe bet nowadays is to just automatically assume that you'll get that vinyl you preordered a month early one to two months late.

Im not getting this like everyone else is. I'll probably like it more with repeated listens but I just dont understand how people can think he is a good lyricist. I feel bad saying that given the personal nature of this album, but I just cant get into them.

  13. He's very plainspoken and uses basic rhyme schemes quite a bit but it's his candidness and the imagery that he creates that works so well. Especially coming from someone who has lived in southern California, he really does capture a feeling that's hard to describe about the area (look at Palm Dreams). I get that there is a little bit of melodrama involved, but that's kind of what comes with being truthful sometimes. For me, mostly, with this record, it's the fact that he really makes you feel what he felt upon the death of his mother. There is a real sadness and longing in his lyrics that's hard to objectively describe. Maybe someone else can do it justice.

his lyrics have always felt a bit clumsy to me. especially when he tries to stretch out syllables to make a word fit the verse. not trying to take anything away from the album. its been enjoyable on my first two listens.

Could you give an example of a time when you think he uses good imagery? Ive never noticed it myself and in general, I think clumsy is a good word to describe his lyrics. Its cool to hear what someone else likes in his lyrics though, since I do genuinely want to like them more.
