I’m a huge fan of John’s playing and he’s the main reason I bought a traditional strat. But what’s funny about this album so far is that it would benefit from Josh’s influence way more.

I know it’s irrational but long albums turn me off somehow

  12. that's why i don't go back to any of the last couple 1975 albums. and also why i go for a shorter movie if i see that there's another one that's 2+ hours long.

rhcp love to make unnecessarily long albums, practically central to their identity post-mother's milk. to their credit i would not cut anything off of blood sugar (and honestly, would barely cut anything from either disc of stadium arcadium). this album is the exact same length/track amount as blood sugar and... well... i'd probably make some edits yeah but for the most part i'm really impressed by how little i feel the length, which is probably related to how light their touch is across the whole record. for comparison's sake, i love by the way to death and that album feels like it lasts for a billion years

This is their best album since By the Way imo.

I mostly hate it when an album is only like 10 tracks. So I don’t mind a long album.

But at the same time most bands aren’t capable of putting together at least 13 good tracks in one studio recording span. I used to get mad about the first three Weezer albums having only 10 songs. Then as years went on I’m just like please stop making music.

To me, its that an album is very rarely perfect and i'd rather have more material to pick through.

Aquatic Mouth Dance is a city pop song so it’s awesome

ok here's my tracklist for i'm with/beside you, which ended up being an hour long lol:

    1. monarchy of roses
    2. factory of faith
    3. brendan's death song
    4. long progression
    5. how it ends
    6. never is a long time
    7. police station
    8. victorian machinery
    9. did i let you know
    10. hanalei
    11. goodbye hooray
    12. in love dying
    13. meet me at the corner

this is pretty much a perfect pop-rock (with some prog-psychedelia excess) album to me. criminal that "long progression" and "how it ends" were cut from the record imo. still it's a tribute to the strength of the actual album that i struggled with cutting "annie wants a baby" and "ethiopia." this is a controversial opinion but "brendan's death song" is the best rhcp single of all time next to "soul to squeeze." "did i let you know" should've been a single and it would also be way up there

Cool, I'll give it a spin. I have always thought that "Brendan's Death Song" was a clear standout from this era.

I'm currently enjoying the bass in "one way traffic". Unmistakably and uniquely Flea as always.

just popping in to say i really like the new album. but i will admit that a lot of the songs make for just good background music with some parts that i'll turn the volume up on.

also since i’ve been catching up on this thread, i think theres a difference between voicing your opinion and just being obnoxious towards people who like a certain band. and if you are the latter you don’t look cool.
