really hope this means the state's covid cases will decline that much more sharply

Looks like we are getting another stupid storm this weekend, but with rain, which will turn into ice.

    I hate it here sometimes.

Does anyone have a compelling argument in favor of Wu's $7,500 fee for the North End and her behavior during this debate?

  7. I don't really have strong feelings either way, but from what I understand the point of the fee is to offset the costs of outdoor dining that are particular to the neighborhood—the streets are already super narrow already—since almost all of the outdoor dining areas are on public property, unlike other neighborhoods.

I thought I heard that boston is losing money due to no parking out there now (as the tables are there) so the town needs money to recoup it against lost income?

Yeah I don't really get the economics of it too well, but the whole press conference smaller room move was kinda weird and frankly, the north end is way better with outdoor dining haha

You shouldnt be driving there to begin with - park elsewhere, or take the T.

Seems it's to disincentive outdoor dining there because a) residents overwhelmingly don't want it b) it was a pandemic bandaid that is arguably unnecessary now that there are no capacity limits on indoor dining (and a general readiness to return to it for the average person). I really don't know who's side I'm on - I'd like to know where the money is going, at least, before I say I think it's totally fair. But I do get the sense the city was/is considering ending outdoor dining in the north end entirely, in which case I at least somewhat buy this as a compromise solution.

Do residents not want it? I’d be all for it if I lived there to disincentivize drivers haha

Not sure you read Wu's letter, but her claim is that North End residents have had an enormous amount of complaints about outdoor dining and that there are roughly as many patios in the north end last summer as there were in several other sections of Boston combined

Trying to find parking in the north end even before the pandemic was a nightmare.....so having tables in said parking spots should bother anyone, IMO. That's what the fucking T is for...heaven forbid anyone has to walk a half mile to Mikes for a Cannoli.

Yeah anyone who plans to drive into and park in the north end is a psychopath

Itd be interesting to hear from the people that live there - which do they want? Cars driving or people outside?
