Michael Bay’s Ambulance looks like it’s been edited mid-panic attack – review

Ambulance is a purely aesthetic beast, made for those who like their films to look like they’ve been edited by someone in the middle of a panic attack – for some reason, there are about 300 cuts in a scene that consists of nothing more than Danny telling someone he looks like Mel Gibson.

Okay, then. Also Jake’s character apparently has herpes. I guess he yells about it.

 

I really enjoyed this! It was exactly what I wanted from at Sunday afternoon visit to the cinema. Wasn't bored for one second. I found it to be full of suspense from start to finish.
Also watched Licorice Pizza when I got home and I loved that one to. But obviously for completely different reasons.

 

4 and 5 are especially unhinged. Just Bay doing whatever he wanted with the biggest budgets of his entire career. I can see why he found them fun even if they are nearly unwatchable

 

I enjoyed 1 and 3...the rest? Woof. I've got to give him credit for the chase scene in, "The Island," however. Shit is legendary.

It has to be better than 6 Underground right. I couldn't even make it through 20 minutes of that movie.

 

Just saw an add that literally said “critics don’t like Michael Bay movies. But this has a hire rotten tomatoes score than The Rock and everyone loves the Rock. See this movie for yourself!”

I checked, it’s currently a whopping 1 percent higher than the Rock.

 

Man I am so excited to see this. Gonna be so good

 

This could be the four drinks talking but this absolutely fucking ripped

 

Seeing this today or tomorrow and can’t fucking wait.

 

I’ve never been so pumped to see a Bay film. Looks like complete brainless fun.

 

caught this yesterday. there's cool parts, but i found it average. why others are digging it isn't lost on me. gyllenhaal is great and i was surprised how much i liked eiza gonzalez. there's also a certain urgency that helped make this film watchable that you normally don't find in bay's bullshit. i agree with whoever said out there (i wanna say matt singer) that this would've been a pretty sweet 95-100 minute thriller, but the problem with that is bay doesn't do that sort of thing. definitely a big step up from a lot of previous entries

i'd be sad that it's yet another original movie with some exciting aspects underperforming (or worse) in theaters amongst stuff like sonic 2 and morbius if the director wasn't a well-documented (even amongst this site, evidently!) nightmare come to life to work with and be around

 

I had to go to a farther away theater bc the one near me rotates 3-4 movies and they’re showing Sonic and Morbius instead. So

 

This fucking rocked. Bummer it bombed but guarantee it becomes a future sunday afternoon on cable classic. Felt like something ripped straight from the 90s.

 

I know I’m like only the 10th person in the country who saw this movie this weekend, but it pretty much fucking rules.

All 3 leads are fantastic! Really impressed by Yahya and Eiza. Eiza in particular impressed me a lot. I’ve seen her in 6 other movies and could only remember 1 of them off the top of my head that I remember her in. Which was Godzilla vs Kong and she was a nothing character in it. Looking at IMDB, I didn’t realize she was in Baby Driver, like I swear that’s a different person haha she killed it here and I hope she keeps getting big roles like this. I’d see Yahya in Matrix and thought he was good there, but he also killed it. Jake has been great for awhile so no surprise there.

my only complaint is that they probably should have cut 15-30 minutes. One scene in particular is a therapy scene with the FBI guy that really does nothing for the film beyond introducing him. He easily could have driven up and nothing would have changed. The scene was confusing at first because it cuts to his husband (who I thought was his son at first, but they kiss at the end of the scene and the fbi guys mentions a husband later). But it’s Michael bay, so fuck it, I guess.

the movie sounded phenomenal, so many explosions and loud gunfire. I felt it.

there is next to no plot, but it doesn’t matter. Reminds me of Mad Max: Fury Road in that way. The chase and the characters are what matter and they shine brightly. 15-25 minutes in the chase starts and goes for over 90 minutes with almost no stops basically. Buckle the fuck up and enjoy the ride.

a few of the drone shots didn’t really work for me. They’d suddenly take a sharp turn and cut to a different shot and it just felt weird. Luckily most of the drone stuff is towards the beginning and then it kinda stops.

It’s big dumb fun with tons of explosions and crashes with nice wide shots so you can see what actually happens. Go see it in theaters if you can, it’ll be a good time, I promise. I laughed out loud quite a few times.

Oh, and I gotta hand it to Bay, I feel like in all his movies there always ass shots and such with the hot women in his films. Unless it was a quick shot, there was none of that here of Eiza. Did Bay mature a little? He has a lot of bad movies, but you gotta respect the guy for being so hands on on set. Being on the camera or right behind it getting his hands dirty.

and the Bay movies that get referenced are Bad Boys and the Rock.

 

I would recommend this to anyone that loves movies like Speed or Collateral.

The way Bay uses drone shots in this movie makes me want to see drone be used in every action movie from here on out

 

Eh… some of the drone stuff was fine. The shot where it appears they timed it so the ambulance launched over it was cool. But most of it felt like it was just for wide overhead shots and not so much the action. But I guess I don’t know all what was drones or not, just the obvious drone shots.

 

I noticed multiple action beats that were drones. Some of the chase stuff looked so cool that way
