    I guess it’s reunion day.

Wastashi Wa are back. They’ll release their first new album in 16 years on May 20th. Today they’ve shared a double single.

16 years after their last release, the band has announced the new album People Like People. The record — their fourth — arrives on May 20 via Tooth & Nail. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has shared a double single: "Let Me Prepare You," which features Gasoline Heart, and "Trust Me," which features Dogwood and Saint Didacus. Watch the video for "Let Me Prepare You" here and listen to "Trust Me" here.

"'Let Me Prepare You' is a song about the beauty of the duality in life," the band says. "Life is a series of challenges, growth cycles, 'ups' and 'downs' that are uncomfortable at times, while inspiring at other times. 'Good' and 'Bad' start becoming something we can feel equally thankful for in life when we see the duality of growth in all things."

Meanwhile, "Trust Me" takes a critical look at the plugged in generation and digital age, and the dangers that lie within.

Here's a crash course in Watashi Wa history, which includes some shifts and name changes! The California band was founded and fronted by singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer Seth Roberts. Joined by Jeremy Wells [bass], Miles Castenholtz [guitar], Teddy Ramirez [drums], Roger Tompkins [guitar], and Tyler Tedeschi [guitar, co-producer], Roberts has crafted the right music for the right time on this long-awaited offering.

"It was the right time," he affirms. "I felt called to do Watashi Wa again — as if this was what I was supposed to be doing. In the past, it was often difficult. Now, the songs came out easily. When I was writing, it just was Watashi Wa. These days, my perspective on music is similar to the freedom I had when I was younger and first started the band. Things in the world pushed me towards it even more. I thought, 'Why not just do Watashi Wa again?'"

    Why not indeed!

Watashi Wa initially emerged at the turn of the century with an artful fusion of pop universality and rock unpredictability. Following the success of What's In The Way, the group found a home at Tooth & Nail Records and unveiled the seminal The Love of Life to fan adoration and critical praise. Watashi Wa morphed into Eager Seas with the transitional Eager Seas in 2006 (the last record released under the Watashi Wa name). Eager Seas became Lakes and enchanted audiences with the Photographs EP, boasting popular guest collaborations with Aaron Marsh of Copeland and Mike Herrera of MxPx. Under the Lakes moniker, introspective offerings followed — Agreement [2010] andFire Ahead [2014] — before Roberts flew the Eager Seas banner again on Mine As Well [2018]. Along the way, he launched Bonnie Dune with late Glee star Cory Monteith on drums. Between a career in marketing and full-time duties as a father, Roberts continued writing throughout 2020.

He experienced a revelation as the material took shape.

"When we broke up, we were in our early twenties, but we'd been together for almost ten years," he states. "I was young, immature, and jaded. My ideas were naïve, because I thought I couldn't do this if I was the only original member. I never thought the first Eager Seas album was a Watashi Wa album even though we put it out under that name. Fast forward, I'm at a different place. My kids are older. I have more life experience. Once I began writing, I asked myself, 'Why wouldn't this be a Watashi Wa album?' All of those old roadblocks in my mind aren't there anymore. I tried to focus the vision on what Watashi Wa to me. It was always a bigger vision of how we’re all connected. It was based on positivity. This body of work is rooted in faith and optimism."

    ...And they're back!

I'm not sure this is really a "reunion" as much as just changing names/rebrand of the band again, but I'm definitely into it. Seth's albums are consistently great and I'm excited for this.

PLUS, two songs featuring Relient K and one featuring Anberlin??? Wild

Death Touches Us, From the Moment we Begin to Love Supporter

This is the best news. The Love of Life was on such heavy rotation back in 2003/2004. "With Love From Me To You" is one of my all time favorite songs. Definitely put that on mix cd's for gf's back in the day... Haha. (including my now wife of 11 years).

New songs are a bit different, kind of like those new Juliana Theory tracks from last year. But good to see Seth making some tunes again! I'm on Spotify now listening to some old Lakes, Eager Seas, Watashi Wa stuff now!

Dude constantly retweets Mike Cernovich, who literally hired a PI to stalk my family during Gamergate. Fuck him and every project he’s attached to. Certified ex-fan now.

Well this is a bummer reading those tweets. If I recall the singer of Sherwood and Number One Gun are far right in their beliefs from reading posts back in the day also and feeling the same way about those bands.

Yikes! Thanks for linking these here. Definitely threw some water on my excitement for the reunion.

@Jason Tate might be interested in seeing these too.

It's also not a reunion, it's just a band name change

Lol I liked one of their albums a lot back in the day. Guess it’s best staying in the past.
