Discovering the 59 Sound as a teenager in 2009 was also such an embarassment of riches. I had just stumbled upon an album that I immediately knew would be the defining album, or any piece of art really, of my young life….and then we got American Slang in 2010, Elsie in 2011, and Handwritten in 2012. What a time.

  2. I got in so many nasty fucking fights with my dad as a junior/senior in high school (huge problem child lol) but we both were obsessed with 59 Sound and their other records for a few yrs there haha

i don't remember specifically the date but it was in the 2008/2009 timeframe right after the 59' Sound came out and a friend said "listen to this." I was a freshman in high school and literally it changed everything. Then I got to have American Slang sophomore year, Elsie junior year, and then Handwritten summer of senior year.

I had a select few of my friends into them, but it was Handwritten that got ALL of my friends in it. The album leaked the night of a party. We hooked it up and just played it all night. Everyone who already wasn't a fan was a fan then. The summer of 2012, which is your end of high school every one goes off to college summer, was defined by that album. Endless parties ending with Gaslight sing a longs at 2 am with legit all my friends. All of us going to college but still listening to it as much as possible cause it reminded us of each other and all the good times now fleeting.

We'd not miss ANY Gaslight show since then. Just meeting up with like 15 of your best friends and listening to the band that defined the most formative years of your friendship ... yeah fucking special.

Lets just say today our group chat is LOSING it. I got friends from college coming out of the woodworks ready to meet up. This is the most special band in my life and its been a shitty last few years in the world. Them getting back full time gave me a moment of genuine happiness.

Have the discography on shuffle. Not a weak song in the bunch.

I'd have to predict they're much further into the songwriting process than they're letting on. I can't imagine them announcing LP6 unless they were pretty damn confident it was going to be stellar.

    Right...?

The Menzingers were sort of replacing TGA for me in terms of “favorite band” and their importance to me is nearly equivalent. But, it’s Gaslight. It always will be. And now I got both active again.

I think most of the reason i fell into Menzingers was because they scratched that itch for me so well.

  11. Idk that they're that far into writing but I definitely agree they wouldn't have thrown in something that concrete if they weren't very confident about the direction things are headed. They're not gonna play games with our hearts haha

I was a late bloomer with Gaslignt. Got into them with “45” in early 2012 after one of my coworkers demanded I give them a shot. Easily my most listened to artist of that year (a milestone year as I graduated from grad school). I can still remember buying Elsie while in an IMAX theater waiting for The Dark Knight Rises to start since I saw it was on sale (after consuming all things Gaslight). Probably found out about the sale on AP.net haha

I found them in 08 on Steven's Untitled Rock Show, or one of those shows, and he played 59 Sound. Instantly loved that song

I first read about them in Alternative Press (lol) back right before Senor and the Queen came out. Checked that out and fell in love instantly. Then 59 Sound came out a couple months later and that was that.

The summer after graduation and before first fall of college is such a magical time. Nothing but endless optimism and partying.
That summer for me and my friends was...
    Ataris - So long astoria
    Yellowcard - Ocean avenue
    Brand New - Deja
    .....over and over on repeat.

I got into them summer of 08 while I was home from college on Summer Break. I saw a random review of 59 sound on Punknews and decided to check the album out. I’ve been hooked ever since. They’ve been my favorite band throughout my adulthood and I’ve enjoyed everything Brian’s ever put out. They’ve also introduced me to amazing artists like Frank Turner, Ruston Kelly, Loved Ones, etc. by bringing out great artists to open for them. It’s crazy that it’s been 7 years since I’ve seen them live.

  22. Got a specific tip off before the Reddit thread from a friend on here over a month ago (after Jason's newsletter teaser, but not from Jason) that it was happening and wasn't just an album anniversary tour but was sworn to secrecy...won't say who but they're around. Anyway it still didn't feel real until I saw that silly pic of them standing in the water today haha

Got into them when a friend I made on here (well, on AP.net lol) who knew how big I was into both Springsteen and bands like Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, Bouncing Souls, etc, sent me an mp3 of "I Coulda Been a Contender". It was love at first listen, before the song even finished. This was shortly before the Señor & The Queen EP came out, and I remember how excited I was when that EP dropped.

First time I saw them live was right after American Slang came out, at a smaller venue here in Indy called The Vogue. Was right up by the barrier, and still remember that show pretty vividly. Man I love this band.
