Are they going to go with Kris Crummet for the rest of their career?

Is there something wrong with his production? I don’t have an ear for that sort of thing at all

Nothing wrong with his production at all, they’ve certainly found a groove and productive partnership with him that works

it may be why I feel like I want a shakeup, not necessarily the songs they’re writing

uhhh when they went with someone else for acceptance speech the results on the production side were awful even if that album rules 2.0 sounds a million times better

Agreed and I don’t know any other producers that could work well with them. Just saying that Kris’ production is making DGD feel slightly stagnant, even if they’re at the top of their game over the last 3 records

yeah i disagree. a. the production isnt the problem, its great and b. they arent stagnant, i could point to at least half a dozen if not more songs on afterburner that are an evolution of their sound or straight up experiments unlike what theyve done before. even artificial selection and mothership are quite distinct from one another and the albums that came before. i think its an unfair criticism that just straight up doesnt track. imo.

They aren't stagnant, but there is definitely a DGD formula at this point. It's cool though, because no one is executing that style better than them right now. Heck, they got a whole subgenre named after them. There were enough curveballs on the last album to keep me happy. Calentamiento Global, Say Hi, Jon adding borderline clean singing to his repertoire (Strawberry's Wake), etc.

Doing a Tilian discog run today. It's amazing how much better Acceptance Speech 2.0 sounds compared to the original.

yeah I think they do have a "formula" for putting together an album, but when they literally keep improving on the formula with every release it's a positive rather than a negative IMO.
E.g. since IG they always have a heavy, Jon-focused song on each album that always features the secret band guitarist (Shark Dad, The Rattler, Say Hi etc.) but they perfected that on the latest album with Say Hi.

Deception goes incredibly hard. Discog highlight for this band for sure.

Who wants to take bets on how many vinyl variants there are for the album? I'm guessing at least 10.

carve is the perfect DGD song if you eliminate tillian's vocals. he's my least favourite vocalist so this band is ruined for me now.

Im sure this is a never-ending debate but Tilian is absolutely my favorite. I rarely listen to those first 4 albums

i genuinely feel bad for how much i dislike him but i just can't get into his voice. they used to be my favourite band and i was hoping he'd just do a record or 2 and then leave but that dream is dead. he was good on that saosin demo though.
