The actual songs on Spring are pretty good but the production/style choices are ‘bad Weezer’ to me.

And not bad as in poorly made. Bad as in ‘bad dog, just let the guitars and vocals lead the way!’ IMO, the sunny clean strumming thing should be what’s buried in the background below classic Weezer guitars, the silly intros should go away, and Rivers should let it out and be weird 2-3 lines per song, the rest of the lyrics can stay generic and meaningless. I’ll let him have that.

Petition to re-record Spring in the same style as that Van Weezer b-side.

chorus slaps, verses are peak-Rivers being Rivers.

Whole EP is definitely enjoyable, kinda feels like summer though!!!

 

This whole EP is fantastic.

Doesn't quite top Van Weezer for me, but I like this way more than OK Human.

 

I feel about the same with this as Van Weezer. they're fine, but completely unexciting and I can't imagine replay value being high. neither are even in OK Human's ballpark

 

Listening to OK Human now and it is indeed way better. Numbers is a masterpiece

love this but it sounds nothing like old weezer lol. it’s like raditude but good.

 

This is the closest they’ve come to Blue sounding guitars in a long time, and the solos are definitely Pinkerton-ish so I can understand those comparisons.

Songwriting-wise it is closest to OK Human but doesn’t quite reach those heights IMO.

 

The opening song to this is appalling.

the rest is decently okay Weezer I guess with a slight twist. Doubt i’ll go back to this.

 

Not really anything that will bring me back to this but I like the idea of them trying something new.

Also, the verses on A Little Bit of Love sounds dangerously close to another Weezer song and I can't quite figure it out/

 

this and VW reuse a whole bunch of melodies from their demos, maybe one of those?

 

All weezer albums have repurposed demo melodies

Just now gave this a listen and it's fun. Not quite as good as VH or OKH but I'll probably spend some time with it. Angels On Vacation and A Little Bit Of Love are the early faves

I can't really get most of it to grow on me unfortunately. Might end up towards the bottom of their discography for me

 

I liked it ok but have not spent much time with it since release.
