I had an inkling she was Pearl maybe 3/4 of the way through because of the way she said certain words and something about her eyes in the few well lit scenes that showed her face. Definitely looked at the IMDb as soon as I got out lol.

He was literally not on screen when he died. It’s an R rated movie where we see brutal kills, but this one is not shown. Clearly an intentional choice, but not a choice with apparent reasons to the audience.

Huh. Was the blast done with an edit. I only saw this last night and I swear blind you saw him fly backwards from the shot

Yeah you see him fly backwards for a split second. There was no blood or gore though. I feel like it might have been Kid Cudi's decision to keep it like that.

just saw this & loved it but I’m not a horror person…unless it’s done by A24. Thought the landslide scene was great. Didn’t know the same actor played both characters until coming here but damn that makes it even better.

Didn't love this. Was basically Last Night in Soho by the end, which also struggled thematically, imo

Yea I’m in for sure. Wonder if they’ll do the full prequel job & show what led to the basement setup.

  15. I just assumed this was the guy strung up, but I guess they did kinda leave that unresolved

Oh same. I just meant will they tell the tale of how he got lured out there as the final scene or whatever in the prequel.

I kinda don’t want them to, like leave it a mystery

  18. I would typically agree, but in a movie like this? Give me everything you got lol. It's a slasher, not an arthouse flick.

I mean, the guy clearly hasn’t been hanging there for decades. So unless they do a time jump at the end of Pearl I highly doubt we shall see it set up. Will probably just be something to show that this couple has done this kind of thing before.

Loved this, nice throwback to slashers of old while not being afraid to have some thematic weight nor characterisation to its antagonists.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Saw this tonight. It was my first movie in theaters since The Before COVID Times, so it will always be special for that.

Much like The House of the Devil, I think everyone's mileage will vary depending on their patience with the deliberate pacing, but much like the former, I enjoyed this quite a lot. A really nice mix of period dressing, well-earned jump scares, some brutal kills, and legit laugh out loud funny moments. Not necessarily something I foresee having a lot of replay value, but not everything has to.

I would agree that Jackson's kill felt a little out of place, but not necessarily for the offscreen component. He seemed to have a feeling something was up after seeing the car. I would assume that he'd be alarmed enough to be like "fuck this, I'm disarming this old dude right now." He kind of just left himself open.

Thought the extra little punches on the gore and mayhem really went a long way: RJ getting stabbed to the point his head is coming off, Lorraine still alive after the blast to the face, and then of course Pearl getting the Texas two step over her dome. Gnarly.

Decided to stay post-credits, not even realizing the Pearl thing was there. Curious to see where they take this with two other installments.

Saw this yesterday and didn't get the teaser after the credits. I saw it in 35mm tho, so maybe that's why.
