So if the money runs out, that's why
If your love runs out, I'll cry
Yeah, it's fine if the love and the money run out
If the drugs run out, I'll die

    Agreed :)

they wrote 12 songs, and swung like they couldn’t miss (and they didn’t).

He said Mike Sapone worked on polishing the songs up but yeah I wouldn’t have known this album was basically just polished demos if he hadn’t said so. Impressive as hell.

the term “demos” has kinda lost its meaning a bit with how ridiculously good you can make home recordings sound these days

Not even just the quality though, like the fact that these songs are so good and he didn’t even rework them from how they were originally recorded as demos.

It's insane. Take this same level of quality back to 2005 and it wouldn't be too far off many bigger label bands.

he did say no edits which is pretty fucking huge and unprecedented the performances are raw as fuck but you don’t hear many mistakes and the ones that remain elevate the experience rather than distract from it

  10. Yeah, I don't listen to a lot of emo anymore but Oso Oso stays hitting. This album rules, the rawness is beautiful and a perfect tribute

up to like 7 or 8 full listens now, I think I am comfortable calling this their best, which is sincerely unbelievable to me and I would not have figured it’d top either of the last two the first couple listens. there’s so much here to really take in that I really needed a few listens to really recognize it. at the very least I can safely say this is their best lyrical effort without a shadow of a doubt, I think I was pretty off-base when I said it was less personal. I probably should have said it’s less centered on romantic entanglements. carousel made me cry once I read along with the lyrics, I am guessing it’s about his relationship w music, but it’s such an eerie and heavy metaphor in light of the circumstances (and also like taking it at face value if it’s about music? like I relate so hard, as a musician myself, especially after these last couple years).

I dont know if I will fall in love with this as much as BITG but I love it as progression

i respect the decision to pull back after the glossier and all around tighter presentation of BITG. reminds me of jimmy eat world putting out damage following invented or surviving following integrity blues.

yeah, I really love pretty much everything about how this thing sounds tbh!

I think Yunahon sounds kinda weird, like the drums especially just don’t hit like they ought to, but it doesn’t really hinder the record significantly for me bc the songs are just all so good. and everything is at least, like, intelligible lol. Basking sounds pristine, like it is def the most technically great sounding album by the band, it has the exact right amount of sheen and the hooks just pop. this one tho, honestly? sounds the most interesting to me and tbh that’s more important to me in a record at this point in my life than if it sounds perfect.

This has been the only thing I've wanted to listen to for the last three days. I love the whole thing, even if I'm not sure how it'll stack up to BITG for me in the long run

  19. After two listens, it's not quite clicking as something super special for me.
But I also really want to keep listening, so we'll see how this goes!

That's where I'm at right now. Basking, Real Stories, and the State Lines albums are all pretty special to me (I like Yunahon but not as much as the others). I enjoy this album though a chunk of it blends into the background. Maybe it'll continue growing on me.

Yunahon is great. It took me a while for it to click though. I dont think he'll top Basking ever for me, but I love this an awful lot.

so when the one thing you love
    has been held at gunpoint
you just have to face it
    you don’t have a choice
    I tried to outrun them
    my plan was just shit
    I got 12 steps ahead
    then they emptied the clip
oh they’re everywhere I seem to be looking

  23. It’s either growing on me or I’m in a different mood this week because I’m liking this a good deal more today on third or fourth listen
