I can get that sometimes it's hard to manage all the comments within the news section, but in my opinion it was on of the coolest feature when everyone could discuss the article, the hype of new single, album, etc. Now there will be such a mess within the forum threads.

it won't be. there are defined threads for discussing articles. comment sections being seperated from the community made the news page on ap a huge mess.

I have the forum bookmarked and the button right there on top is pretty simple for now

I haven't noticed this section. Thank you for the navigation. Anyway, it is strange when the comments to articles are separated from the main page to forum. I think not everyone visits the forum. So some of the potential comments could be lost.

it's deliberate. news posts could get pretty awful, this way they're part of the community and can be held accountable for their posts. this hopefully will foster a more positive environment with better discussion.

I don't think there will ever be a case where I click follow on a thread and will want email notifications. Would be nice to be able to shut that off. Because first world extra click problems.

Its going to take some getting used to having separate sections for news articles and commenting on news articles. The forum posts link to the articles, but if you start from the home page you have to manually go into the forum and then find the news article you want to comment on.

@Jason Tate I don't have any feature requests, but I just wanted to provide feedback that this UI, on desktop and mobile, is super clean and snappy. It's actually enjoyable to use. Good job

edit: and also the more social-network-y additions are great as well.

  10. Thank you! Those are all words I would have used as goals for the website, so to hear you say that really does make me happy! Thanks for checking it all out.

  12. It's a possibility in the future. The truth is that right now I actually wanted to make that a little more difficult, by design. I wanted to separate the forums from the content because besides the website itself feeling outdated, the news comments were the hardest thing for me over the past few years. It was really hard on my mental health and I need a break from that for a little bit. There's a good spot right by the social icons where a little "replies" box could go. And maybe there will be by the end of this year, but, for right now, I just need a little break from that for a while. I wanna make sure we get this forum up and running as best we can, that it's got good moderators, that the conversations are positive, and that I'm enjoying writing and publishing again. Then I'll slowly tackle that kind of stuff. The article discussion forum is seeing more comments already than I even expected.

  13. If you have it set to default off with email then it's just one more click: follow -> confirm. There's actually a technical reason I do it this way that allows me to speed up the site for everyone. However, what you can do is follow a thread from the forum home using the menu on the far right — that'll do it with no confirmation.

@Jason Tate these are all worthy of putting in, especially Battle.net.

  15. I actually prefer the sponsor in the middle of the thread for a few reasons: you don't have to scroll past an ad to read what a thread is about, I hate banners that stay "persistent" on the top or bottom of mobile devices, and I really hate the ads that take over an entire screen. I think this is the best happy medium between the options, especially when there's only one ad per page on the entire website and they are one way we keep the lights on for the site. Being a supporting member removes the ads if you'd like, since your subscription then becomes the way the site makes money.

Another good reason to sign up: Dark mode!

Something I liked on the AP mobile site was how on the opening side bar thing, it had the options of what specific forum you wanted to go to (be it general, music whatever). So then you didn't have to go to the forum page, theen go to the specific forum you wanted

It's definitely very different at first, especially since we're all used to AP. But I love the idea of, as Jason put it, separation of content and community - so I personally don't wish to see news article comments enabled any time soon. It also helps with concentrating discussion in a single area. I remember in AP news posts, sometimes there would be the same discussion going on by different people in two different areas.

Yeah, definitely this. This feels so much more organized this way. I hated going back and forth because discussions were fragmented between the news article, the bands thread in Music, and then the thread in General.

How do you guys feel about the thread listing not showing the total amount of pages for a particular thread unless you roll over it? Is that intentional just to keep it more clean looking? I'm personally fond of being able to quickly glance at which threads have the most pages. But that could just be me.

I'm going to recommend a personal section for the boards where it would be easy to find forums on mental health and safety. A place where people can discuss what they're going through and hopefully find people that may be going through the same thing so they know they're not alone. Not everyone can talk to their friends. I'm sure there's a topic in one of the forums already - but a whole section dedicated to it would be nice. This would include a sexuality thread and stuff like that.
