I live in Arizona, where people don't talk about race or politics, because when they do, it comes with a host of racial and sexist slurs and that's just not polite. Stay wherever you are, I'm sure it's better.

I think I've heard people in here say they want to run for office as Democrats. If you do, I hope you're prepared to cleanse your party with fire.

 

One of my (many) worries about a Trump victory is that it's going to embolden these assholes. It's why I was hoping for an unbelievable landslide. A close race feels, in some regards, like a powder keg.

I think, regardless, it is a powder keg. Look at the civil rights movement. Whenever there is a shift towards tangible progress, there will be reaction. The alt-right isn't just going to give up if Trump loses. They've tasted both legitimacy and power, which I honestly think will translate into more domestic terror in the same vein as the Oklahoma City Bombing. And I don't think our institutions, of which Hillary is a part, can actually shatter and crush them in the way that is necessary.

 

In better news, the union at Long Island University yielded concessions from the school administration. It is these sorts of victories that give me hope:

A landslide victory is the difference between the establishment and moderate GOP stepping up to take their party back from the nutjobs, and a GOP that just kind of shrugs and keeps slowly dying.

The first scenario would probably result in a split in the party and a much less disgusting GOP, with a further right "Tea Party" party springing up, which would be nice.

 

Eh. I think a landslide would enrage the base and the alt-right even more. It would make them go farther right. The establishment isn't equipped for that fight, unless they implement super delegates or something, in which case they fracture the party. Either way, the party is dying and I think we can leverage that to actually address the things which radicalize white voters.

I think Stein's proposed cabinet would have some issues with confirmation.

Worst part: I'm reading through politics twitter right now ... it gets barely a mention ... from anyone. It's ... weird. The RT's are low, the pundits are quiet, it is accepted.

I said this in the NFL thread but outside of the college towns and the two metropolitan areas on either side, this state is like a conservative fever dream that defies rational explanation.
