The legendary CAVE IN makes a highly anticipated return with their Relapse Records debut, Heavy Pendulum, their first full studio record in over a decade. The band (Stephen Brodsky - Guitar/Vocals, Adam McGrath - Guitar/Vocals, John-Robert Conners - Drums) sees a revival following the addition of Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders, Old Man Gloom) on bass and vocals.

Produced by Kurt Ballou at God City, Heavy Pendulum showcases everything that has long established CAVE IN as one of the best contemporary rock, hardcore, and metal bands since their monumental 1998 debut Until Your Heart Stops. From the driving tracks such as crushing opener "New Reality" to the metallic edge of "Blood Spiller", Heavy Pendulum sees CAVE IN look back at their discography and capture their most memorable, visceral, and forward-thinking moments to create a record that is all at once familiar and in true CAVE IN fashion, ahead of the mainstream.

So do they not consider Final Transmission a studio album? Interesting

Song is cool, I’m sure it will grow on me. Maybe it’s Spotify but Brodsky sounds different.

I think a good portion of it was not fully finished, but they polished it up well enough to release. It's still awesome though.

I think it's more than it wasn't fully recorded in the studio, since a fair amount of it consists of home recordings from Caleb

Song is good and that album cover is amazing.

I just recently started checking out this band so this is great timing.

I was of the mindset that Caleb shouldn't be replaced but Nate just rules so fucking much. The only person I would want filling those shoes.

As someone who is pretty unfamiliar with cave in (minus listening to youth overrided cuz etid covered it, and the thrice guys really championing them) where is a good starting point?

I know Jupiter is considered their classic, but what else should I listen to?

Lastly, was Caleb the lead singer? Or did he share vocal duties?

jupiter is the second of two classics, yes (until your heart stops is a metalcore classic)

caleb is primarily the backing singer though their screams post-UYHS are usually him

I always rec Perfect Pitch Black first because it feels like a good combo of both of their sounds.

Jupiter is a perfect record tho.

I think this was on every mix cd I made for two straight years. It has everything I've ever loved about the band all in one spot.

  24. No surprise, this highly slaps. Nate’s harsh harmonies are a nice touch.
