I know Dombrowski gets a ton of heat for trading prospects all the time but I can’t remember a deal he made that ended up regretting.

 

In terms of comparing value acquired vs given up, jury’s still out on the Chris Sale trade (Sale has been hurt so much and costs a lot obviously and Moncada and Kopech are still young). But if you want to push for a title and don’t care what happens after he’s your guy. And I do like that there’s a a GM like that who’s willing to stake his reputation on pushing his chips to the middle over and over

so yeah in general you’re right, and the (pre-Philly) results speak for themselves: effectively two WS teams with Miami since the he left before 03 season, tigers were great for years and just got unlucky in 06/12, 18 red sox

 

I mean you always have to trade prospects, even good ones, for titles.

I think Dombroski is the perfect GM for a win now team but if you’re looking at the long term of your franchise you probably don’t want him around. He was the perfect GM for the Red Sox when they got him and dumped him at exactly the right time too. He’s good at trading prospects at the right time and I liked how he know what holes his teams needed and went out and got them.

 

Yeah for sure. We’ll see if he’s still got it, I’d like seeing Bryce and JT make a deep playoff run before they get too old. But that division is gonna be really tough for awhile even with the new format
