I find it interesting how as Jill Stein has become more known, she has not gone up in the polls. In fact, one can argue she has actually been in a decline. Her peak was in late June, seems to basically be downhill from there.

 

I'm pretty sure that mirrors a general decline in trust in major corporations. The major theme that's recurring is that these people are actually unresponsive and part of a larger framework that serves to ignore the interests of the average person. See: support of Iraq War

It is now popular to opine that, had the Democratic Party nominated someone else for president, then Donald Trump already would have been crushed as an electoral force. Watching the events of the last month leads me to the opposite conclusion. Had the Republican Party nominated someone more dedicated to the hard work of demagoguery, someone more committed to the craft of being a dictator, instead of the scatterbrained dilettante currently campaigning as a performance piece, that candidate would be even money to defeat anyone the Democrats put up in opposition.

A substantial portion of this country wants someone not to govern, but to rule, to defeat the imaginary enemies they have concocted so as not to bestir themselves to resist the forces that actually are working against their interest. For the balance of this election cycle, and largely due to the presence in it of this ridiculous man and his ridiculous campaign, the American people have proven themselves profoundly unworthy of being called citizens. That cannot be said of the next guy to try it, and there will be a next time, because the basic tectonic plates beneath our democracy have shifted so as to make the next guy inevitable. The mechanics of tyranny are not a magician's prestige, the third part of a trick in which the lady is reassembled or the rabbit brought back to the hat. The mechanics of tyranny are primal in all of us, and vestigial in very few. They are reflexes, like breathing or flinching. We engage them without thinking. I'm still not convinced if the election were today that Johnson would actually scratch 6 or so points.

 

I'd say he'll get about 5%, give or take a point. Jill will probably get like 1-2%.

Got partway through the Guardian piece this morning but haven't finished yet. Anyways, WIGOP is the fucking devil, so glad I finally got out of that state.

 

I am also leaning that way.

 

I agree with the complicity of the media when it comes to assisting in the rise of Trump. Every time there was a black shooting victim and they showed them looking like a thug, they were playing to white fear; every time a potential immigrant committed a crime, they framed it as an immigration issue, even though they have lower crimes rates than the general public, you play on white fear; every time you have cable broadcasters asking a woman why she didn't fight back against her assailant, you play to white, male ideals. The list could go on. There are broader processes at play here, however, they are part and parcel of the methods by which the truth of reactionary white supremacy is disseminated. It isn't just Fox News. The assumptive logic of the major networks long ago ceded ground to a political ideology that has since fractured and produced Trump among its ruins.

 

I want to see a survey that follows up with those who pick Johnson and ask them if they know literally anything about him.
