I think they only did a short run after Wolves came out. They played Chicago and some other places and then they kicked Phil out of the band.

 

Anything this festival says or does, never pans out. I hate BRRF for the many incidents last year.

They're calling it the first time the band has done an active rock festival ... aka a butt rock bill like the Wimmer stuff.

With MCR tickets running $130 minimum before fees, I'm so glad I already have this trip booked haha

I wouldn't even really be interested in a big headline show from them, but I could see myself being convinced to drop that amount for fomo reasons.

 

I don't get why anyone would choose to see them anywhere other than Riot honestly. So much more bang for your buck. and these bucks do need a lot of bangin' lately

 

I think I payed 175 or something like that for my 3 day passes for this year and that’s with fees.

 

Silverstein just announced for Blue Ridge, last played Riot in 2014 and no Chicago dates yet for this year although they do have a random date in August in Ohio so may be doing a tour around that time that includes Chicago.. I'd still say at least possible

 

For sure - so freaking happy I bought three day passes already. Not that I would have bought tickets for an MCR headline show but I'm glad ill be able to check that off my list. Just great added value from Riot.

 

It’s a monetary value to see MCR at riot but I kind of feel like it will be an overall pain bc unless you line up early or commit to pushing your way through the large crowd that probably isn’t eager to let you in I feel like it’s going be hard to have a good view. I kind of just assume I’ll be in the way back mostly listening and looking at the screens and stage setup.

 

I get the desire to be up close for that particular view, but fwiw last year I had a blast taking in a few of the big productions from as far back as picnic blanket territory, and I have a feeling MCR will bring a version of their show to festivals that's still pretty high-production. So there's the alternative experience that doesn't offer the same crowd atmosphere.

I definitely feel for anyone who really wants the vibe that will only be attainable at an indoor reunion headliner either way.

 

Same - granted they're not MCR, but I watched Slipknot from the back back near a barricade for a tower or something last year and it was perfect.

 

I don’t necessarily want to be in pitting for them, but just to be able to watch them perform. I am not a huge mcr fan by any means so the back is where I’ll be, but just in general it will be interesting to see how big their crowd is. Pretty wild to think about that blink tour where people felt over it and now they are probably bigger than ever.

 

I was able to walk right in to the pit for Slipknot and RTJ last year about 30 minutes before they each started. With the new riot/roots stage setup, it’s ridiculously easy to get a good view for headliners.

I know mcr will be a bigger draw than either of those bands were, but I don’t think it’ll be as hard to get close for them as people assume.

 

Agreed, the new setup was nice. Was able to leave New Found Glory 15 minutes before Slipknot's set and got in the pit without issue

 

Was def harder to get a good spot for TBS than any headliner, and 1000x harder to get out from the thick of it haha

 

I'm still genuinely interested who's going to be the counterheadliner against My Chem when they play. I'm hoping to go to Nashville, Detroit, and Las Vegas to see them, so if I do Riot Fest I might watch whoever's up against them like I did for Jawbreaker in 2019.

 

I was actually thinking that MCR might get the unopposed headliner treatment, but I can't remember how much precedent there is for that at Riot.

 

Only the Misfits in 2016 come to mind, at least in Chicago

2012 & 2013 had some headliners unopposed, but those are hardly even fair to count as the outdoor festival was in it's infancy

 

That's a good point. The only other time I've seen a fest do that that I can think of was Radiohead at Lolla in...2009, I think?

 

I'm glad I'm going to one arena and one festival because I want to experience them both ways. But I'm really happy the arena show is first because I'll be less stressed about my spot and stuff at Riot so I'll still be able to enjoy the day without worrying too much about being at the stage early and all that. But seeing them specifically at Riot Fest has always been the dream for me.

 

I don’t know if she’s been brought up before, and I know it’s unlikely due to her infrequent touring/playing shows, but I would love Fiona Apple to be the third headliner.
