feel like Julien fans will like Helena Rebensdorff aka Brimheim. put her debut album out in January and it's brilliant, definitely my favourite debut of 2022 so far. similar topics and themes. hurts so good.

oh my god I see her in a month

 

Well fuck me, that was a beautiful performance, beginning to end. Took several songs for her to loosen up and interact more with the crowd, but she sounded beautiful throughout every song. The whole band was tight and on point, and Julian seemed to really get into it and enjoy it more as the set went on. Crowds at concerts in Oslo are very quiet and respectful during songs, so nobody sings along to anything, but once a song is over they'll cheerly quite loudly. Julian seemed to almost be on the verge of tears after a song about 1/3rd the way through, but then a few songs later mentioned being "sick", which to me almost seemed like a strong case of allergies or something, as her voice sounded perfect throughout. But yeah, overall a really good show

 

it's almost too on the nose I'm seeing her tonight when I feel lower than I have in months. if she plays Happy to Be Here I'm gonna start fucking bawling.

I probably will at some point, bunch of her songs are an emotional fucking minefield for me rn. maybe I need the catharsis.

 

great show but massively truncated setlist. Julien didn't quite seem herself - put that down to end of tour exhaustion probably. weird crowd. don't like that the two most recent shows I've been to at Whelans have had weird crowds. she deserved better.

I went to see Torres tonight in Chicago and got to talk to her after the show. I told her about how I discovered her through Julien and how I’m a big Julien fan and she let me in on a secret (which she also said I could spread):

Julien and Torres recorded a country album together in Marfa, Texas and it is coming out next year!
