I don’t think anything could be worse than Leto’s design. What a disaster.

Heh, I just rewatched the Lego Batman movie and was reminded that Zoe voiced Catwoman in it. That’s fun that she went on to play her in live action.

I'm going to see this Tuesday since it'll be cheaper. In the meantime, I'd love to have Clayface and Man-Bat in a future movie. Or Killer Croc. Like, everyone is so laser-focused on the realistic villains and no one cares about the crazy fantastical ones. Let's get fucking weird, goddammit.

Really enjoyed this. I skipped all of the Ben Affleck Batman stuff so I was really ready for another movie and it didn't disappoint. That also means I've never watched Leto's Joker thankfully. Kind of wish they would've held off until a third movie to bring him in this series, but this was good enough that I'm not too worried.

The obvious move is to do War of Jokes and Riddles next so the third movie can be all about Kite Man

Definitely don’t think Riddler knew Batman’s identity. I loved the noir theme and score. Felt like I was in an old timey detective movie. Not really excited for Joker again, if anything save it for the last movie. Or give me Silence of the Lambs but Batman.

Also this is the first time in I can’t remember how long that nobody clapped after the movie. Nobody made a sound. Maybe because of how bleak it was.

I still hear people that say it was redeemable if they would have carried forth with him and couldn’t disagree more.

What if that’s the Court of Owls angle, though?

These movies rarely do one-for-one adaptations of specific comics. Maybe the take for this is that the Court has some history in Gotham but hasn’t been a thing in a long time, but this power vacuum allows them to swoop in to make Gotham theirs again.

It’d build off of the themes and vibe of this movie without repeating it, and also give us a visually striking bit of Batman lore that hasn’t been in a movie yet.

I would still like a Black Mask story to have a character that has some connection with Bruce as a kid and can also run the mob post-Falcone. They can even bring Ewan back and separate this canon from Birds of Prey/Suicide Squad.

For me, the biggest part of the Court's power is that they've always been there. Having it be something that had receded from power would lessen it to me. They could always make it so that the Court was manipulating Falcone too, and any "power vacuum" that results from his death is just part of their plans. Doesn't have to be a situation where they went away and come back. They could definitely do it and make it work, not saying I don't trust Reeves to make it work, I just personally would like it to go a different direction at this point.

And we're getting the Gotham Knights game this year for some more Court action so that'll be fun.

Ugh. There was nothing redeemable about that portrayal.

Let’s just talk about this great movie instead of bum ass JL’s Joker.

I mean - whatever glimpse we got from the joker, the appearance, the laugh, the voice - none of it worked for me. I hope to god they scrap that idea.

Maybe we can see a little bit more of joker in the sequel in arkham as kind of a looming threat but don't have him escape and become the primary villian until the third movie

The joker scene was the one thing in this movie I straight up hated. Really took me out of it during that whole scene.... rolled my eyes so hard at the clown line. It felt like something the Sony would do with their marvel properties.

I'd like to think that was thrown in as a bargaining tool... WB telling Reeves "fine you can have your three hour noir epic and do whatever you want but you have to tee up a sequel with joker"

I think the prison scene between Rob and Paul (too many easy parallels to the joker scene from TDK) and that scene really made me feel the length. Had I not disliked both of those scenes so much, I would have been fine with the 3 hours. It was at that moment I started to tire.

Once I read Reeves' quotes from that IGN interview, it made more sense to me why the Joker scene was in there. That said, I still kinda think it should've just been a post-credits scene.

This was quite an experience. I can't say how much I loved John Turturro and Colin Farrel in this. This is that movie with a compelling (and pretty intricate) story that just happens to have comic book characters in it I know a lot of people were waiting for and it delivered. I think my favorite thing in the entire movie was the opening sequence.

    Some things I didn't love:

    - I found the amount of times Gordon (and even Bats and Catwoman) says "Jesus..." was hilarious. I counted like 6 for Gordon and he was great but always seemed just overly perplexed/confused. Jeffrey Wright was still great though. The punching scene with Batman was great

    - That Joker scene made me feel like I was watching pretty much the exact same scene from ASM2, Shazam, BvS or Venom. That contrast between the serious tone and the goofyness of that scene really took me out

    - Length was a huge problem here. The last hour felt like a sequence of alternate endings one after the other, I kept thinking "oh wow cool, perfect way to end it" and then nope.

    - I hate how every Batman movie seems to be chasing that loose canon Ledger Joker element where the villain terrorizes Gotham through videos and perfectly orchestrated schemes. I love Dano but I feel like the baseline he was given for his Riddler was to be Heath Ledger's Joker

    - At one point the movie felt so serious and brooding and grandiose and like so much MOVIE that my feeling was like "okay movie you're good, you're really really good, you can relax now" and that made it a little tiring. The Madison Square Garden scene really felt like overkill for me. I think a shorter length time could've fixed that
