Yeah it reminds me of the polls in islamic countries right wingers like to cite where they say like oh 80% of people in these countries truly believe gay people should die or whatever...like, yeah, do you realize how people in some of those countries might be afraid to say otherwise because of what their govt might do if they think they're gay? lol

sanctions slowly kill citizens. look at what happened when we enacted sanctions in the middle east to see how that plays out.

 

What's your preferred approach to the war? Stay out of it 100%? Provide only humanitarian assistance?

 

Nothing we do will ever be ideal in a situation like this, people will suffer regardless of the action taken, but I think sitting back and doing nothing while others suffer and die is shitty

if you impose sanctions you're making innocent people suffer and die too, so i'm not sure how that's an appropriate reaction.

 

I think the question becomes whether the sanctions have any positive impact and if so weighing that against the negative impact. I don’t know the answer to these questions but if the sanctions don’t do anything to end or resolve the conflict (remains to be seen) or worse if they escalate conflict then it is clearly a mistake that “trying something” doesn’t excuse. In particular when sanctions so often aren’t worth it and are used to further imperialism rather than some noble cause.
Frankly in the vast majority of cases it would have been better for the US to just send aid and otherwise sit back and do nothing. At some point we need to learn from history and quit acting like our government acts for the greater good instead of just what our particular oligarchs want.

 

This shit drives me crazy, this is the only rhetoric Republicans have at this point and to have a Dem* mayor feed into it is absolutely infuriating
